Reindeer moss Ever heard of it
Posted by mikesmowers on Friday, August 4, 2006 9:12 AM
Good morning, I was in Lawton yesterday and in Hobby Lobby I found a stuff called Reindeer Moss. It was in the flower decorating dept for $2.99. I bought some and upon looking at it when I got home it is the same stuff as WS Lichen.  Also at Wal Mart I seen a two part stuff for making water in vases for artificial flower arrangenents for around $5.00 Have any of you tried this product? If it would work it would be a lot cheeper than WS realistic water. I also got some stuff at Hobby Lobby called Super Moss, It is real moss,  I put a little bit on the layout and I think  it will look good. Just wondering if anyone have tried these products.     Have a good weekend.           Mike

Mike:

Reindeer Moss is the tight, subtle tuffs of lichen. It is great when it's scenic-bashed. Take the tuffs and spray hair spray or spray adhesive on them and roll them around in WS ground foam of various colors and you have small tress and brush. I once picked several trash bags of this growth from a state park in Missouri and cooked it up with liquid glycerin to preserve it and died it green with dye. Then rolled it around in ground foliage and it looks great. The only problem with lichen without the foliage/foam is it looks like toy trains layouts of the 70's.
