BLI and PCM
Posted by bsteel4065 on Friday, June 30, 2006 11:21 AM
This is a question of very litle importance .................. but what IS the difference between Broadway Limited Imports and Precision Craft Models?
Same company obviously as they have the same address.
At first I thought it was BLI = HO, PCM = N. But then PCM brought out HO.
Is it cast metal chassis or body parts at PCM and all plastic at BLI?
Sound (+no sound) and sound only?
As I said, a question of little importance .............. but I suddenly need to know what IS the difference?

Oh well!
Cheers

BLI is contracted to use the QSI sound system exclusively, while PCM currently uses the LokSound chip and has the flexibilty to use other sound chips as they desire. Both BLI and PCM have brass models as well as the plastic units that they both sell.

None of us really know the reason that they started PCM, but consider PCM is used to market the Loksound systems, and the upscale die cast metal models for the most part. there are exceptions since some are plastic, but Loksound is exclusive to the PCM line. There might be some kind of agreement with Loksound not to use other electronic sound installation within the same company. Some products require this, but it is unknow to us the general public at this time.

QSI might also require BLI to use only QSI sound.

Another possible reason was the possible MTH lawsuit that was talked about against QSI, but I don't think that action actually came about. Loksound does use the EMF feedback and the MTH threat was along those lines against QSI at the time, and by changing to Loksound ,they would insulate the action by MTH or anyone else, since the Loksound is under the EU and lawsuits overseas would cost big money.

One other thing happened prior to PCM starting up. The man that started BLI was tossed out of the company for reasons I do not want to list, since they were all second hand information. After that action, PCM was announced a few months later, which might have been to protect the remaining members from any lawsuits that might occure from the BLI problems. PCM being a new company could be operated without any problems form the former personnel.

Disclaimer::
All of the above information is rumored, but came from inside reliable type resources in our industry, but BLI/PCM has never given out the true facts. Maybe we will find out more in the future.

In the meantime, we have two great companies bringing us great models.
