Tsunami Decoder in small steam locomotives

I have 2 small steam locomotives, a P2k 0-8-8 and a P2k 0-6-0. Will the Tsunami decoder fit inside the tender of each of these little switchers? The tenders are identical in size with the only exception being that the 0-6-0 tender has pick-ups on the wheels.

Michael - I am sure the decoder will fit in the tender the question is, how much room would you have for speaker/s? What are the dimentions of the tenders, floor area and height?

here is a link to my mini-tutorial on installing a tsunami in a bachmann 4-6-0 . the tender shell is 3 1/4 (L) x 7/8 (H) x 1 3/8 (W) inches

in a smaller tender you'll have trouble instaling the speaker , in a larger tender .. well that should be no problem !

I just had a Tsunami installed in a Alco, brass, 0-6-0,and they installed a Modeltronics 11/8" speaker in the tender.I am having a heck of a time trying to get decent volume out of it(this may be my lack of programming skills and I'm still playing around with the CVs)Maybe the P2K will accept a larger speaker.I also have a soundtraxx system in my P2k 0-6-0 but it took a little fiddling to get it to fit...It kept popping off the coal bunker.A Tsunami may be a slight bit smaller, but it can be done

I put a Tsunami in my P2K 0-6-0 with no trouble at all. I was replacing an older Soundtraxx Plug-n-Play that I'd put in a couple of years ago. That had an oval speaker, which I left in for the Tsunami. Plenty of room (well, relatively), and works fine.

Pondini,
Thanks for the imput. I may have to try the very same thing. I have 1 each of the 0-6-0 and 0-8-0 that I have been thinking about converting to the Tsunami.

Michael - Remember that oval speakers will have a higher watt rating than a round speaker of the same size. Most one inch round speakers have a .1 watt or so rating. I use a 1 1/2 x 1/2 oval that has a one watt rating. So if you have the room always go with an oval over the round speaker. I just put two of these med oval speakers in a 2-8-2 tender and its kind of small.

Yes, ALWAYS use the biggest speaker that will fit. Two ovals are better than one of the same size, but if the choice is one big oval or two smaller ones, use the bigger one. The reason? The bigger the speaker, the more bass it will produce (assuming they're of similar quality, of course).

I also have a Tsunami in a Heritage 0-6-0, and it works okay...volume could be louder, but the tender is small...
