The Model Railroader's Guide to Bridges, Trestles, And Tunnels By Jeff Wilson is a great tool. You can order from Kalmbach Books.

Better to be roughly right, than to be exactly wrong...

And when you do what you did, you'll get what you got!

I found an article back in about 1995 in Railroad Model Craftsman (Carstens); I still have the issue and it had some wonderful scale diagrams that you can photocopy (I believe the original scale is HO but the photocopy can be reduced to N scale). I made some very nice bridge bents by simply arranging the lumber to the pattern of the diagram, glueing them together with wood glue. A little black mixed with brown paint mixed with a small amount of alcohol makes a nice wa***o fini***hese structures. You may email me if you wish and I can get you the article an the diagrams.
