What did you name your fictional Railroad?

Mine is the "Blue Ridge Southern Ry. " which is an idustrial railway that interchanges with CSX at "Woodland Jct".

Mine is the Piedmont Southern Railroad which runs from Richmond, Va. northwesterly to Connellsville PA. It serves a number of coal mines in northeastern West Virginia and western Maryland as well as being a through route for steel products from the Pittsburgh area to the ship building industry in Newport News, Va.
The year is 1955.

Mine is the Moose Bay Railroad, with the subways run by the Moose Bay Transit Authority.

Rock Ridge and Train City--California Sierra Foothills--1885

It was named by my son. He named the bridge Academy Bridge. I asked him why and he said because it looks like one. I asked if the name would change when I built a trestle and he said no.

Mine is pretty easy Dragon River Steel Corp {DRSC}, started two years ago. I've been a model railroader for many years before, but life as we all know has many turns. My wife and I went to a hobby shop in Savannah,GA called Bull St station, this is what re-light the model train nut in me. Soon ....my collection grew to be very large.

Then my wife started complaining about all these trains blah blah blah blah. So I figured, if I could get her involved somehow, this will work. You see , she collects pewter dragon, as a matter of fact any dragons {big dragon nut}. So I named my steel mill after her hobby, silly huh... but it worked. DRSC is served by Norfolk Southern outside the mill complex , all in HO scale.

Back when I freelanced in HO (before moving to prototype modelling and N scale), I had a railroad called the Johnstown & Broad Top RR. It ran from near Altoona, PA to Johnstown, PA (via a different route than the PRR) with a branch to the Brad Top coal fields. It was influenced by the real East Broad Top RR and Huntingdon & Broad Top Mountain RR. Before that I did a Colorado thing called the Gunnison, South Park & Pacific.

My layout doesn't model ficticous railroad, but ficticious towns. They lie on the BNSF out of Chicago (the line that goes through LaGrange for those of you familiar with the area). We model the ficticious town of Prarie View and the outskurts of Central City which are both served by Metra, Amtrak Midwest, Metrolink (don't ask...), and Amtrak, along with many many fan specials and BNSF business trains. As with the real line the UP/SP have trackage rights through there (my dad's a BNSF modeler, I'm more UP. Good compromise if you ask me :-D).

Right now the city of Prarie View is going through a rapid climate change that is causing the rolling plywood deserts to suddenly turn into vegetation [:I], it is predicted that by the end of the summer the entire downtown along with the Jone's farm will be entirely vegetation with no plywood desert to be seen.

The Seneca Lake, Ontario and Western (SLO&W) is a figment of my imagination that exists in the first week of August 1925 and serves the Finger Lakes region of NYS. It is supposedly a shortline that connects with the old NYC and the NYO&W (and who ever else I feel like running).

The Sublime to Redikulus runs from the logging opperation on Mt Sublime in northern Minnesota to the mining opperation in Mt Redikulus in Arizona passing through Green Mt in New Mexico and Yellowstone/Yosemite/Bryce canyon and Winebago. There are two wormholes. Yes I was affected by the G&D.

Chicago, Burlington & Quincy. I also have the Chicago & Northwestern. Also a little bit of Northern Pacific, and a tiny smidge of Colorado & Southern.

Mine is named the 'New York & Putnam" or it's nickname "Old Put." It's not really a fictitious RR but rather a freelance of a prototype. The prototype is the Putnam Division of the New York Central. The era of operations is early '50's.

The Autumns Ridge Railway & Navigation Co. serves the Penobscott Bay area of mid-coast Maine and the surrounding islands from it's inland connection at Burnham Junction, Maine.

It's all in N scale and set in the 1930's.

The Bunter Ridge Southwestern Railroad in 1958 operated mainly from Pueblo, Colorado to Albuquerque, with branches north to Colorado Springs and east and west from Albuquerque. It interchanges with the D&RGW and AT&SF. It also provides trackage rights to the Santa Fe. Yep, that means the Bunter Ridge is the railroad operating tracks over Raton Pass. Thus the reason for its existence.

Before I decided to go proto - Pacific Coast Lines. Would have allowed me to use equipment from any line with Pacific in it's name.

The basic idea was built around the Southern Pacific, but anything I wanted from lines like UP, WP & NP would have been available too.

The Columbus & Hocking Valley Ry is owned and operated by the CDB Industries and is one of 7 short lines owned by CDBI.The C&HV came into existence in 1978 when CDBI bought the old Athens sub-division of the Chessie System.During this purchase 2 other short lines was bought,the Parkersburg & Ohio Valley RR that ran from Parkersburg WV to Athens Oh and the Ohio Midland Ry that ran from Jackson,Oh to Newark,Oh.These 2 roads was quickly merged into the new C&HV.By purchasing these roads the CBDI finally had the long sought after southern Ohio coal fields and industries.The CDBI relaid the track from Nelsonville to Athens which had been removed by the C&O some years ago.The old Logan yards was rebuilt and upgraded during this time as it would serve as the home shops and the only major yard on the C&HV since it was centrally located on the line.The second yard would be located in the old C&O(nee CHV&T) Mound Street yard and would require trackage rights over the Chessie to reach..A agreement was struck with the Chessie for those rights.The former P&OV yard in Parkersburg was upgraded as was the OM yards at Jackson and Newark.
The C&HV connects with the following roads.
Chessie(c&o) at Columbus.
N&W at Columbus.
CR at Columbus
DT&I at Jackson
Chessie(b&o) at Newark.
Scioto Valley Lines at Lancaster.
Ironton Northern at Athens.
Chessie(b&o) at Athens.
Commodities haul: Grain,Lumber,coal,coke,steel,fly-ash,food stuffs,sand,glass,corn sweetener,corn starch,vegetable oils,scrap,pipe,chemicals,paints,news print,pulpwood,wood chips and other general freight.Total cars handle 32,584 a year
Thanks to a aggressive marketing team freight traffic has climb a staggering 33% since the CDBI started the C&HV.

My layout is called the "Wye (River Valley) Junction" -- for two reasons;
1. I wanted ready made HO station platform signs -- and the Atlas WYE sticker fit the LifeLike signs , perfectly.
2. I come from the Wye River Valley, in England and wanted to model the Great Western -- as well as mid-West US railroads -- Wye River sounded like a pretty good imaginary mid-Western river, also.

My Road is the Texas Mining and Industrial , with a connection to the SP. The SP didn't go away in my world. My private road connects from El Paso to Holbrook AZ. My layout is center around a ficticious town of Tanza, Texas. Services industries in the area .

The Golden State Railroad. We are a bridge road in Calfiornia. Our mainline is the old SP coast line San Louis Obispbo to Santa Clara then east into the san juaquin valley and up the spine of the sierra nevad mountians and west to medord, Oregon. We bring all traffic into northern californai from the SP, UP, Santa Fe, WP, BN, CORP and D&RGW. The railroad originally ran from Santa Clara to Medford, but when SP was in financial trouble in the 1970's we bought their best routes. Part of the coast line, The San Juaquin line down to Fresno and the Overland route to connect to the D&RGW at Reno.. The line through Sacramento to the Oil reineries at the Cartinez straits and the Sacramento valley line to Redding.
Our main classification yard and engine facilities are at Modesto. We have yards in Santa Clara, and Medford, Oregon as well as an intermodal yard at Stockton.
The biggest inustriies on the line are the Bailey Steel Corp, a large integrated steel mill and the Port of Stockton.

Wilmington is an actual village in the High Peaks area of Northern New York, northeast of Lake Placid.

The Wilmington and New York connects the town with, well, more of New York.

It connects with the D&H in Au Sable Forks (the D&H did really go there) and the New York Central in Lake Placid. Current setting is 1963 but I've also done 1980.

I model:

Caltrain
UP ( only engines [ 2 challengers and 6 ac4400cw's ] )
BNSF ( well......I don't have anything bnsf yet.... [:I] )
Amtrak ( acela too, but it is CAHSR [ca high speed rail] )
The daylight ( of course )
TGV ( also CAHSR )
leased C&NW bi-levels ( operates as caltrain )
virgin railways of UK DMU high speed train -- demonstarator in USA , used as a filler in CAHSR trainset shortages )

So, I guess I would follow the names of the train I model...BUT, I have a shortline ralroad that is totally fictional ( kinda like a brachline ) that I don't have a name for.
I was thinking somthing like -- Jaratan and park railroad -- my name spelled backwards and park..... don't know how that got there..... [(-D]

Two railroads, connected at the junction named in my forum handle.

Japan National Railways Nichigeki Route - which is actually the JNR Chuo-Nishi Hon Sen in disguise. Purely prototype, but the station names have been changed to protect the guilty. Tomikawa is the end of catenary, so engine changes are a significant part of the activity. Steam, diesel-hydraulic and catenary motive power, plus DMU and EMU passenger movements.

Tomikawa Tani Tetsudo (Richstream Valley Railroad) - Privately owned steam powered coal hauler that connects the collieries in the upper valley to the main line at Tomikawa. Home road rolling stock is kitbashed, follows Japanese lines but bears very little resemblance to anything that ran anywhere, except for some JNR hand-me-downs that have been heavily modified.

Operations are by timetable, with a modified car card and waybill system controlling the movement of freight cars and the assignment of passenger cars and locomotives.

I've just been granted title to the entire garage, not just the half I've been using, so my unfinished layout has entered the realm of never-to-be-finished. Design work on the bigger and (hopefully) better version of the same operating scheme is underway, with renewed construction (after some demolition) to follow.

Collier Bluffs and Poker Flats , is my road Patterned after the Washington,Idaho, and Montana. Road in central ID. Hauls logs coal and Grain to the Poker Flats river boatlanding, where it picks up oil, farmingsupplies and logging and mining supplies. It also hauls Lumber from the local sawmill to the landing. Steam is primary power on some days. Some days the era jumps ahead to the fifties and diesels.
In Lewiston Idaho,where they filmed Breakheart pass.

The Tidewater and Albemarle Railroad, a shortline which runs most of the original Norfolk Southern in eastern North Carolina and the Norfolk, Virginia area.
