Couldn't you just make one piece of piano wire in a squared off "Z" shape work? the switch motor would move the bottom part of the "Z" so that the top part of the "Z" moves in the opposite direction. ??? You would probably have to use a brass tube shaft to pass the wire through the foam and then bend it on either side.
