I'm 58 and just getting started. Have yet to even think about actually building a model. Currently still working on benchwork, backdrop, and subroadbed.

About 40 years with the typical breaks for mundane stuff like college, girls, career, family...etc. Started building a new layout after a long break in 93' Been proto-freelance modeling for about the last 5 years. Started on a new layout last year.

It all started when I got a wind up Thomas the Tank Engine toy when I was born. Then I got a trainset for my 5th Birthday. I've only started getting serious in the last year, purchasing 3 locomotives over 5 months, building kits, etc.

i've had trains around as long as i can remember.... had home made brio style ones when i was really litlte. got a couple of O scale marx stets at some point, and had those for a while. got a few HO cars at some point simular but it took me a while (years) till i got an HO engine to run them with. after that me and my brothers picked up some more ho stuff at garage sales or what not. it stayed like that till about 8th grade and we went to a train show. me and my brothers picked up some more trains and decided that we really wanted a layout. before we had talked about building one, but never seriously. so we fanaly got my dad into it from there it just took off =D

The question is; "Been modeling long?" I started modeling when I was 5-6 years old and excepting the 2 yesr 8 Mos. and 10 days I was in the ARMY, I have been involved since and am 54 now. Trains, boats and planes and some cars. Trains probably for 20.

I started modeling in the middle '50's wien my dad bought me a Mantua shifter. I took 15 years out to raise two boys and am now enjoying the "empty nest" syndrome with just the wife and I. Even when we were raising the kids I'd still go buy an accassional brass loco to keep the interest up. first layout in junior high through college, second one before kids, third one when the first son left home and fourth, and probably the last, in one of the upstairs bedrooms. It has and is a great hobby and the fellowship is the best anyone could ask for.

Have a blessed day and remember SANTA FE ALL THE WAY
