circus trains
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, May 21, 2006 10:30 AM
I was down in the basement unpaking more of my dads collection this morning, and came accross a Ringling Brothers Advertisment car. How was this car used in real life? Was it sent down the line ahead of the circus and sit out front of a station promoting the circus for days or weeks? Or did it just travel around the country in passenger trains and act as a rolling billboard? Thanks for the help guys.

The Advertisment Car arrived in town about two weeks before the circus and carried a small crew to post signs and posters around town. It had a small crew quarters and storage for the posters. Several large tables allowed the crew to add the dates etc. to the signs and paste them before hanging them around town on just about every thing that didn't move.

If you're ever in Baraboo, WI be sure to see the real thing. I don't know if it is part of the annual Circus Train which goes to Milwaukee but if so, there's another chance.
