If you only want $250 for the lot, why would you make the mistake twice? Dave

What if he meant to list it for $250.00, but instead forgot to put in the decimal point, typing $25000 instead? Then it starts to make some sense. Clearly, he doesn't know what he's doing, though, because of the multiple listings, etc. Dan Stokes My other car is a tunnel motor Reply rolleiman Member sinceAugust 2005 From: Michigan 1,550 posts Posted by rolleiman on Friday, May 19, 2006 10:25 AM QUOTE: Originally posted by stokesda Something just occurred to me... It would make sense if he hadn't changed one of his auctions to a $10K starting price with a $15K buy it now (last time I looked at them). He has a lot of stuff but if he wants to be taken seriously, he needs to generate a list or at the very least post some better pictures. Could be, but given the thrashing he's received here and the likely number of emails people have probably sent him about his Possible error (mine for one), I have to wonder if that's really the case. Perhaps, if that Is the case, Gil should just forget about entering those last two zeros.. That would solve the problem.. Ebay doesn't require a decimal point or the dime and pennny place holders for even $$ amount starting prices. I kind of feel for the guy.. Sounds like he has some deeper problems than just over pricing (intentionally or not) his train collection. Selling a collection that size is not going to be easy or fun - perhaps somebody knowledgeable that lives nearby would be willing to help the seller identify what he has, and give him realistic appraisals. A lesson to all of us, especially those of us getting on in years, is that Dad did his son no favors when he left him the collection and layout. Have we (I know I haven't) done anything to help those who will eventually have to dispose of our layouts and collections? My speculation, based on very little info from the seller, is that it is not all toy train junk from the '60s and '70s. The quantities of locomotives, passenger cars, and freight cars lead me to believe that there are probably at least some quality pieces in the collection. Particularly since some of it was put in display cases by his father. Since the seller obviously does not have any real knowledge of the hobby, perhaps a helping hand from the forum is more in order than a bashing. Fred W - an Alaskan lost in California (have e-mailed the seller twice, was way too harsh in the first e-mail, and will not be a bidder at the current price) Reply jeffers_mz Member sinceNovember 2005 1,223 posts Posted by jeffers_mz on Friday, May 19, 2006 3:13 PM So I'm just lurking this one...too early for me to tell if something amiss or if the seller is just not a heavy net user, getting tangled up in the red tape. However, I did notice one post where a substantial quantity of locomotives and rolling stock are described, and another where the seller said he only wants $250 for the whole shebang. Were it not for the fact that every available horizontal space in my whole house is currenty occupied with more engines and cars that I can fit on my layout in a month, I'd be looking into purchasing them before somebody else snaps them up. Back to lurking...so far, a fascinating thread... Reply Edit Anonymous Member sinceApril 2003 305,205 posts Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, May 24, 2006 2:28 PM Remember these auctions? $25K and 15K for the same trains? Auctions (both) end tonight, still no bidders, still not changed. I assumed the eBay listing fees for such high values would be fairly high, but I checked and they will only be $4.80 each. Lotsa fun to watch anyway.
