[:D] Hello everyone I am having problems with Roundhouse husky Stack cars they want stay coupled and the cause huge derailments. I was thinking about changing the trucks and was wondering if yall had any suggestions before I change out 25 cars. Thanks Kevin

Need more info. Are the cars weighted properly? Do they derail at the same place on your layout (turnouts, diamonds, etc.)?

I solved this problem by changing all the trucks with MT trucks and weighted the containers as the cars are very very light.

Running 22" Radius and the cars are right out of the pack and they are derailing on the middle of the curves and no where else. I am running on Kato track and about 400 Scale MPH?

They need new wheel sets and weights in the containers. No way these can run out of box w/out a tune-up!

On the Athearn husky stack cars I bought (2) I had to put 3 1/2 ounces of weight in the bottom trailer to get them to run. Once I did that, they have been almost flawless. I really love the husky stacks but they are usually somewhat of a problem to run. All my radius are either 24, or 22" and #6 turnouts.

He probably missed where you wrote that they are made by MDC and assumed you are modeling HO scale. Notice the reply after his assumed you are running Athearn (HO scale) cars.

The problem is not because of having a smaller radius. I run them on 14" radius and they run well after I added weights and changed the coupling and trucks. As I said earlier these cars are ultra light and if you do not weight them they tend to jump the tracks on curves. A little patience is needed, by trial and error you will get the correct combination of trucks, wheels and coupling.

I use container weights from deluxe innovations. They rate each weight to be at 0.14 pound. Quite useful to stabilize the car.

I agree completely. Bad wheels and not enough weight. The cars are litirally being jerked off the track because they're not heavy enough. Ask me how I know.

How do you open containers to insert Deluxe Innovation weights inside? I bought a couple packages on eBay, but there are no instructions for even installing them into DI containers, much less any other brand. On the N-Scale containers I've looked at, there are no screws or obvious restraining mechanisms, but I've even tried (gently) prying the sides apart to see if they come apart like locomotive shells.

I tried searching for an answer here on the Forums, but wasn't able to locate anything pertinent. There were a couple references to adding weight (including DI weights), but no mention of how to do that. All the posts that came up were very old (since DI seems to have gone put of business).

None of the links in this necro thread work and only one responder is still active in the forum. 

Not my scale nor era, but I see there are multiple manufacturers of Husky containers on the DI webpage.  That probably is important in how they come apart.

I have many containers, and the bottom comes off, like a semi trailer.  Glue the weight to the bottom, and put them on the lower level of the double stacks.

I'm talking HO scale, I know nothing about N scale.

Fox Valley Models acquired what was 'salvageable' of the Deluxe Innovations tooling in 2019; I would strongly recommend contacting them (they're a family operation, so you should get a detailed and fairly informational response and not a form e-mail or scripted response) for detail information.

This from TrainBoard forum in mid-2019:

While the tooling for the 40' boxcar, the containers, the container chassis, the woodchip hoppers, and some of the other models was appropriated, the tools for the 53' DuraPlate, Platewell, and RoadRailer Trailers, the Maxi-Stack IV, and the Vintage by Deluxe (ex V-Line) PS2 2-Bay Covered Hopper were reported to be unrecoverable and are now lost.

I had wondered what had happened to Deluxe Innovations. I remember that someone had purchased the company and moved it away from California many years ago, but lost track of what happened after that. I appreciate the update as well as a response that answers to my question.  ;-)
