Last year when things were tight money wise for me, I figured out that if I skipped 2 days worth of lunch a week, I could get a train car kit with no extra hit on the wallet. I guess I'm different from most modelers but I don't do any railfanning. Modern railroading just doesn't appeal to me. If I get stopped at a grade crossing, I want the train to get through ASAP. I'm just stuck in the 1950s. Late steam and early diesels. 40 foot boxcars with roofwalks. Passenger trains that didn't belong to Amtrak. And most important, a caboose at the end of a freight train. I don't pay any attention to a passing train anymore. But if you told me there was an excursion train running with a steamer on the front end, I'd drive 50 miles to see that if I didn't book a ticket on it.
