Bachmann has a Santa Fe 2900-class 4-8-4 that is generally accurate and well-proportioned. I reviewed it when it was first introduced, back in the January 1980 MODEL RAILROADER. It has been in and out of production from time to time, and I'm not sure if it's available from Bachmann right now. Mechanically the more recent production has been much improved over the first releases. I've seen these models look very, very nice with a little added detail and a good paint job.

Bachmann has a Santa Fe 2900-class 4-8-4 that is generally accurate and well-proportioned. I reviewed it when it was first introduced, back in the January 1980 MODEL RAILROADER. Bryan Henderson asked about the 3700 class. Bryan, on the Santa Fe the 3700 class was a 4-8-2. The 4-8-4s started with the 3751, and engines 3751-3764 were the 3751 class. As of now the only models of 3751-class engines have been made in brass. The 3776 class engines of 1941 were basically the same in appearance as the 2900 class that Bachmann models, except that the 3776s had Baldwin Disc instead of Boxpok drivers. Engines 3784 and 3785 of the 3776 class were built with lightweight roller-bearing side rods, and eventually these were retrofitted to all of the 3776s and 2900s. (And when that happened the 2900s got a Baldwin disc driver on the no. 4 axle, but this is starting to get too complicated!)
