Read this link for forum information:

I guess I should have provided that link when I first saw this thread.

Oh dear, I remember when they played that one all the time on the AM radio. The big one with the tubes. I also remember "Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket, two to one you burn your pants."

The stars are a scientific true measure of knowledge of the hobby and are only awarded after careful evaluation of the poster and a battery of tests are administered and the results are sent off to MIT, then and only then are the coveted stars placed lovingly on the shoulders of the deserving member to carry forth into the world and wave the banner of ........yup.

Yeah, record. Like Spacemouse, the rookie sensation. He was a 5-star before he was here a year. He's been here less than 15 months, and has 4498 posts. That, my friends, must be some kind of record.

And the amazing thing is that his posts are good ones, no fluff. Not like this one, for example. (Gotta get to 5 before they dump the stars. Gotta. Gotta...)

Rats. You don't get credit for an extra post if you just edit one.

I don't have any gorilla's on my train, but I do have a Barney and several small various colored dinos for my grandkids to enjoy as the train goes by. Boy I hope I get a star before they do away with them!

How do you get a star? Spend more time on the computer than you do modeling!

right on. I'd like to think I have a decent amount of knowledge. But I have an addiction to this forum which is what explains why I have so many posts.
Ditto to that, dingoix! I'd like to think I post some knowledgable stuff now and then, but it's really just a forum addiction![:D][:I]

I am puzzled by another feature...SIGNATURES!

Many of the members have pictures incorporated into their signatures...
I have been dinking around with my profile now for a couple of days and I can not seem to figure it out.
my question is... HOW THE HECK DO YOU DO IT?!?[banghead]

In order to put a photo in your signature, the image has to be stored on the web first. You need a host for your image. A lot of people like photobucket, my ISP gives me space with my account. Then you place the URL (the address) inside the [img] command. This is the same method used for placing images in posts. Knowing the correct URL for your host is the trick, after that it is academic.

If you wish upon a star,
Makes no difference who you are,
Wi***hem all to go away
And it will be a brighter day.

Truth is there are SOME really knowledgable modelers here with fewer stars just because they don't spend all of their time on here or don't find it necessary to respond to everything. There are also SOME here with 5 stars with very little to contribute to one's modeling knowledge, they just like to post a lot. Ultimately if you are looking at one's stars to tell you the quality of what you will learn from them you may find yourself disappointed. Personally, I'll be glad to see them go bye bye.
