British rail fans

Here is a site that those who model the railways of the British Isles maybe interested in www.rmweb.co.uk

For me it helps being a member of both sites as my interests cover the USA, UK and of course New Zealand. For everybody else it is another railroad resource. I find it interesting how many similarities there are between the sites and the posts of members. A couple that stand out to me are people's views on buying on e-bay and ballasting track.

tatans it seems to concentrate predominantly on the UK scence much like this one caters more to North American modellers. There are members there from all over just like this site. Yes there are Canadians and Ozzies there too. I do not know how much info they have on Canadian or Australian trains as I have only just joined. Hope this was of some help to you. Craig

Craig: the site was started by British modelling fans. I throw in a Canadian reference occasionally as contrast, but my modelling interest is British.
(have you looked at the-gauge?)

BR 6103 are you referring to HO guage v OO guage? I try not to let the differences between OO and HO bother me to much. Or do you mean the differneces between standard guage and New Zealand's 3'6" guage? Iether way I have just compromised as I run everything on HO track. Perhaps one day I will look at Proto four or narrow guage but I doubt it. I am no purist I just like trains and my tastes are rather broad to say the least.

wairoa, I think he means the forum called the gauge (something like the-gauge.com).

rmweb is a goor resource but the language can get a little out of hand and i dont think it is very well modorated.

i prefer http://www.modelrailforum.com/forums/index.php?act=idx
but then i suppose it is just a matter of taste.

mremag.demon.co.uk is pat hammond's site. it is updated once a day it is an online magazine rather than a forum but it works pretty well.

Good couple of sites pedromorgan and BPRR. Yes BPRR that is what I mean. Guage.com ? You may have to bear with me as I am a little slow at times. I think P4 is pretty neat. The only thing is that since I like US HO which has a different guage than P4 I will probably not get into it.

Re: www.rmweb.co.uk

Hi all,

Just dropped by to see why we'd had a recent influx of US based members.

Yes, the site is predominantly British based but there are a fair few members who also model US projects. The site isn't as vast as here obviously but represents the 'livelier' side of the hobby.

Obviously I'd dispute pedromorgans view as the site is moderated but not censored in the way some others are, the benefit that comes from this is the humour displayed by many characters that goes a long way to dispelling the myths about modellers and rail enthusiasts that the hobby in the UK often has to put up with. We're not to everyones taste, but that was why the forum came to be. I don't view the language as 'bad' but it probably isn't the place to be if you're an easily offended fragile sort of modeller [;)]

It's a friendly community and if anyone wishes to drop by and say Hi I'm sure you'd be made quite welcome.
