Another thought I had is, you know those books that give simple instructions and advice on how to make things work, for example, Computers for Dummies? Well maybe a book will come out titled 5-DCC for Dummies.[:D] The manufacturers are going to have to crank up their production of 5-DCC compatible Locos. Are they going to still call them a dummy version?

Trains stop at train stations, Subways stop at subway stations, On my desk I have a work station.

Mine is the enhancred 5-DCC. I control everything with my thoughts. No wiring at all., and all you do to the locos is bless them. Instant control. Its great at train shows. You can control all of the layouts !!!

Ah, I believe Brio have been offering trains with this system factory-fitted for over 20 years. Certainly I can recall using it when I was younger. Speed control wasn't great, it was easy to have a train run away downhill and derail if you didn't watch it closely.

I'd stay away from the HAL9000, if I were you. Isn't that the one that, when you first turn it on, plays the opening theme to 2001 Space Odyssey? (Which is really the beginning of Richard Strauss' tone poem, Also Sprach Zarathustra.) The rest of the time you are then forced to listen to Johann Strauss (no relation) waltzes whenever you run your layout. (Not entirely such a bad thing.)

And you know that the only way to defeat it is to open up the command station and slowly pull out memory chips one-by-one till the unit shuts down*....But then you can't run trains anymore. [%-)]

I have had 5-DCC since the day I was born. I used 5-DCC on my Hot Wheels cars for years, I just didn't know to call it that. Personally I really only need to use it if something derails. The big problem with 5-DCC that I see though is there is no lighting effects, and if you want to go exclusively with it, you have to open up every locomotive you own and rip out the motor and/or the drive gears. Oh yeah one more thing, it doesn't work in tunnels.[:D] Maybe if they figure out a solution... hmm.

Hey kchronister, you can't get 6-DCC it would have to be 10-DCC. Unless one of your fingers was missing.
Of course, the forerunner to 5DCC was 0-5-0.
There is a known problem with the sound device however, it runs on quite long bursts carbon dioxide and so there is a small interuption in sound every 5 seconds as oxygen is taken in.

A quick google shows only France, Scotland, England, and the US particiapte in the April 1st "holiday". So if you are not from one of those places, then you probably have missed the significance of the 5-DCC system being announced in the April MR.

Is April 1st a global "special day" or is it just an "American" thing? That could play a factor in whether or not you "get it" ...

I am asking this because we have moved and the new layout I would like to go to DCC.and can i keep my older engines,

Mail pace is going to pick up in SC. Recently announced that NASCAR will be taking over delivery contracts. If successful, NASCAR will bid on all mail contracts in the Southeast with bids eventually being submitted(if all goes well) for nationwide delivery followed by world wide and intergalaxtic contract bids. Spokesperson for the race organization stated, "We have all these underutilized pickup trucks that are only one or two years old. I may have one from the same bad batch as yours. Only difference is that it's a bit more verbally aggressive. It says, "If you think I'm doing that Dave(that d**n Dave thing again) you're out of your #!@$ [censored] #$ mind." I've thought of disconnecting it from power source but it seems almost clairvoyant; everytime I think of disconnecting it, it warns, "I know where your family members are right now. Do you?"

It's a miracle if SLF Control Industries was able to contain this virtual aggressiveness to productively use these computers in its do all 5-DCC system. I have some reservations about SLF's ability to tame these computers. I have visions of random cornfield meets at notch 8! [swg]

I heard a computer interface is not only built in, but required. The computer tells you what you're allowed to do, and overrides you if you try something unprototypical.

More to the point, after shelling out max bucks for this beyond the state of the art system does it address all owners as Dave?

I'd heard that an outfit called Space 2K Industries had a bunch of unsold computers that they were tweaking for model train applications. Could the buyer be SLF Control Industries Inc. and the resulting product 5 DCC? [swg]

Don't forget it is a proven system using a proven manufacturing process! Unfortunately it, as far as I know, does not come with any sort of warranty. My experience with it does show that it has a tendancy to slow down over time.
