Loksound decoder problem in Bachmann On30 rail truck
Posted by prompter on Friday, February 17, 2006 11:43 AM
I just installed the Loksound decoder (Goose sound) in the Bachmann On30 Rail Truck. I just unpluged the stock decoder and plugged in the Loksound. The
sound is great, but speed control is erratic. When I first increas the
speed to 1, there is a short delay then a speed spurt before slowing
down. On stop, the rail truck slows, then there is another short speed
spurt before coming to a stop.

I seem to recall something about capacitors and coils for RFI on the
Bachmann DCC boards. There appear to be two coils and one or two
capacitors.

Help anyone?

Thanks,
Chuck.

If you're comfortable with a soldering iron you could just snip the plug from the Loksound wiring harness, ditch the Bachmann board, and hardwire the decoder in place. I did this with a Spectrum 4-6-0 with satisfactory results. None of the stuff on the Bachmann board is necessary for DCC. I have heard some people recommend to cut the capacitors, but I haven't tried this. Getting rid of the Bachmann board also makes more room for the decoder and speaker.

I have several Loksound units now and the motor control is usually superb.
