Enclosed autoracks - anyone tried making holes in the side-panels?

I tried to cut with the hobby knife the openings between panels but plastic is hard and though results would be good, it would take a lot of time. I am not sure if there is a dremmel attachment the thickness of hobby knife. Plano Models panels are nice but since they cost like the autorack I still hope to find some other solution.
Ideas?

Craft stores sell thin plastic sheets with holes used to weave yarn for pictures etc. They can be cut to replace the side panels. Holes are a little over size but better than making the holes yourself. Not perfect but give it a look.
