Cheap and Easy Weathering Technique
Posted by railroadyoshi on Sunday, February 5, 2006 2:01 PM
Hello everybody!

I was sitting in Math class thinking about the railroad while my math teacher was reviewing for an exam with us using whiteboards. While he gave problems and we answered them on our whiteboards, I found that the eraser I was using was giving little streaks on the board due to huge amounts of ink in it. Then I had a spark:

Use the erasers to weather cars and possibly structures!
I borrowed an eraser from my teacher for the weekend, and its fantastic. Just rub the eraser on the car and let the ink out. You might need to really push on it. This works best with the spongy type.

The best parts: Cheap, easy, and great results!
As soon as I find my camera (why do I keep losing it?), i'll post a few pics.

I really recommend trying it.

Not a bad idea Yoshi . I'll have to pester my boy, to see if he can get a hold of one of these erasers. Better yet...might just go to staples and buy the stuff.

Is it the same kind of markers, one would use on the white board ? What colors can you get a hold of ?

Good thinking Yoshi!

I am looking forward to seeing some pictures. We have a white board in my wifes office, about 10 steps from the layout. Should I run to Staples & get one of the erasers? Thinking outside the box is good. So is paying attention in math. [;)]

Yes, paying attention in math is very important. You will use it constantly to realize how much you are spending on model railroading. [:P][:)][:P][;)]

Hey...I just happen to have one of those boards hanging in my train room.... I may have to give that a try myself.

I had to get a white board because my daughter and I see things differently and need to compare pictures. Nothing like being over halfway through a scene and realize you are picturing totally different endings!

Yes, I do pay attention in class[:D]

The really great part about this is that most people use whiteboards in some way.

Patrick, yes, any eraser used with the dry erase markers will work. I've only used black color, but i'd think that others could work.

I found my camera, but gave my upload cable to my dad to take the India with a new camera for one of my aunts, so I can't really upload. It'll be a little while before I find another cable.
