The old style of the forum was truly a royal pain to use. Click this, click that, new page, new page AGHHHHH! But the new format I think is great! Sure there's a few bugs but win98 still has bugs in it. As far as speed goes I think it is a little faster. Someone mentioned above about the load time. I've talked to a few guru's and a lot of them say if your on a dial up and near a back bone it will slow things a whole lot. I have a dial up connect(52-53kbps) an from 4:30 to about 4;50 I was trying to get on a NOAA site and it took me 5min. to load one page!! After 4:50 it seems that a dam burst and BANG my load time were back to normal.
What I;m trying to say is give give em some time. This forum has ALOT of potential. I put it back on top of my forums lists!!!
Take care Tim

The new forums are far easier to use. I don't have to read every post individually to find out if the feedback I was planning to give was already mentioned, which tended to discourage my participation before.
It would be nice to have a companion site for convenient sharing of photos, especially if a quick digital photo from the layout can help to explain an idea.
I like maintaining things as non-scale-specific. Dividing everyone by scale reduces the opportunity for a good idea to "cross-pollinate" with the other scales involved.
I do have a couple of concerns about the current format. First, all those smileys get on my last nerve due to rampant overuse. Most boards out there using them suffer from emoticon overload, which distracts from the actual discussion. I implore the MR staff to dump them.
Second, as another post mentioned the "junior-senior-member thing" is a trap. On most similarly afflicted forums it encourages nonsense posts to artificially inflate one's standing. Furthermore, the uninitiated might look at a poster's ranking as a measure of the poster's credibility. Somebody with a few very good things to say trumps the blowhard who can't shut up, but the rankings almost suggest the opposite. Again I hope that idea gets dropped before it causes too much trouble.

Well, I got to admit, this is the most activity Ive seen in this forum in the 21/2 years I've been coming here.--hope its not just cuz the atlas guys are on vacation-so far I like the attitude of the folks here a lot better then the atlas forum
So, for whatever my 2 cents is worth, ,I give the forum a thumbs up[^]

I like the format.
I gave it a "good", due to speed, but the folks who did this are to be commended.
I agree with that previous post that 'smilies' should be restricted to just a few, if any at all. Surely those who post rows and rows of such smilies could find a subway car to deface ?
Thanks again & regards to all. / Mike

I like them. I also think they could be broken down by scale. Thanks for the update.

I have been using them now ever since they started and I think they are great and well thought out. The old style rambled all over. Good job webmaster.
