HO Scale.
I'm just starting to design a layout. My questions are this;
What number turnout would accomodate Heavy (85') passenger cars
for a yard and what spacing between rails? This yard will be a dead end yard.
Thanks for any ideas/suggestions.[?]

I would suggest at minimun of a 6 turnout and a two inch spacing between the tracks.

Chip As for long wheel base cars you can use a #4 or #6.At the club we use #4 switches in the coach yard and #6 for track leading into the terminal..However,there is a #4 cross over that we use to get from the terminal to the coach yard,commissary,REA building and Post Office building.The only time we ever have problems is when the terminal operator gets a little over zealous on the throttle while making a reverse move in the passenger terminal/coach yard area.

Now for me I like 13/4 track centers as it makes the yard track more realistic..Some like 21/4" but IMHO thats overkill.

Passenger yards should be 20 ft centers with blacktop or concrete to allow full servicing both sides also allow a 10 ft paved access across the middle of the yard from the carmen's shack and the cleaners/ service people's building. Don't forget a commisary for food service to diners and club cars, and a laundry for pullman cars. jc5729

Just to make sure its clear, i believe most people mean 2in (2 1/4, 1 /34...etc) from each track CENTER, not from outside rail of one track to the outside rail of another.

You had mentioned rail in your post, so just wanted to make sure so that you didn't give up valuable space.
