Lets see your railroad
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, January 3, 2006 9:14 PM
in getting ready to start scenery on my layout I need a source for some inspiration. But why not make this fun? Give a breif description of your layout (size, scale, era, prototype) and post a picture or two. Since I started I guess I go first[:)].

size: 11x11
scale: HO
era: modern (80s+)
prototype: CSX, Amtrak and Southcross&Western (freelance) in the NE US

A CSX mixed frieght heads uphill toward Ganton. the locos are a BLI AC6000, Kato SD70MAC, Kato SD90MAC, P2K SD60 It looks like the front of the last engine is in a huge dip, but thats just an illusion caused by the angle of the shot and the fact that the mainline makes a wide S curve there.

The engines are long gone now, heres a view of mid-train

Hopefully someday this train will be running above a city and past mountains.

Joe,
My HO scale, Black River Valley Railroad is 4x10- feet, mounted on garage door rollers for access to the 'back' side of the layout. I model the NYC in the transition era, 1955-7 specifically.
My website, link is in my signature, has a track plan and photos of the structures, rolling stock, locomotives, the layout in general and some 'How To' photo essays. I just added some new pictures over the weekend. Take a look!

Remember its your railroad

The layout here is 3.9375 feet by 8 feet, represents the Silverton Railroad in the San Juan Mountain Range, Colorado, only in full gauge HO, not narrow gauge, and is primarily based on the early 1890's era. "Primarily" because my kids like diesels, my son especially likes military related subjects, so the 1890s Silverton, Chattanooga, and silver mine buildings will all be removable to allow newer era (and probably olive drab) ones set in their places from time to time.

Here's the general track plan:

Here's a pic that's about three weeks old:

Since that was taken, the whole layout moved to another room, grew its own legs, shed the sawhorses it used to rest on, accquired one new siding and one new spur, had all the other spurs pulled up and electrically isolated, and is currently awaiting new wiring for the 7 isolated spurs and three new turnouts, before the foam is put back in place and fine tuned, at which point it'll be just about ready for plaster.

I'm hoping I can wire it tomorrow, but reality says it'll probably slop over into Thursday.

HO scale, two 4x8's with a 3x3 connector, kind of in a U formation. Click on my railimages link to see some good (and some not so good) pics of it.

Scenery is fun to make, because you can take something--like foam and plaster, and make it do exactly what you want.

size: 4'x12' (soon to be 4'x20')
scale: HO
era: present day
prototype: BNSF and illinois Central (i guess you'd say IC is freelanced since it no longer exists)
location: somewhere in IOWA (both BNSF and IC operated in IA)

in the first pic we see the section my grandfather built years ago -this fall i added 4'x8' to it (second pic)-i hope to add another 4'x8' to make it 4'x20'

Great job everyone! It’s really nice to see other peoples work and work in progress. In my view, this represents the majority of us, unlike the layouts depicted in MR which although great to look at and aspire to, are not necessarily representative of the many of us who are still in the developmental or construction phase of our layouts. Hope to see more.

My Present layout is currently under construction and incorporates a European theme. This pic is from my previous layout and is the only section to have survived the demolition. I now keep it as a display module. I previously modeled CN and CP but began to loose interest in the same old thing. After a trip to Europe in the summer of 2003, I discovered a whole New World and decided to convert to European modeling, which ultimately reinvigorated my passion for the hobby. If interested, you can also view my Website for more specs and photos of my current layout project by clicking the link bellow.
