My purpose was definately not to upset anyone. I just thought we could maybe.....oh, nevermind.

Just leave it at "I didn't mean to upset anyone, and I'm very sorry if I did".[B)]

Well it is an open forum for anyone that wishes to enjoy it. If someone enjoys starting a poll then they should be able to do that. If you dont want to respond to the poll then dont its up to you if the bother you.

Like Selector said, it's my choice. But I hate taking the time to load all the pages of polls...

Well right now there are only two polls (one of which is this one) out of 20 threads on page one of the index, and 2 others on page 2. Methinks the problem may be overstated.

I usually exercise my right by not clicking on polls nor posting in the threads. Just made an exception in this case.

I agree in that I usually skip over the polls and that is my choice, but some of the recent ones that I have looked at (as well as some other threads) have had quite a lot of responses stating that there were too many of them,....so I'm suggesting that maybe this would calm some folks down a little. You know, strike a happy medium, thats all.

I don't know, maybe it's not such a good idea after all. I was just thinking that it might placate a few. [%-)]

I just skip over the ones that don't interest me. They come and go. I would not moderate them any more than the rest of the threads, the openess of this forum is part of it's strength.
Enjoy

Would a better way of approaching the issue be to ask the pollsters what purpose they feel their polls serve and carry on a discussion of the merits or lack of same from there?

It's always caught my eye that the one posting the poll inevitably give his own answer which either creates discussion or derrision, depending upon who offers the following opinions. I'd think it better to either offer an opinion, ask a question or take a stand one way or the other and invite diverse or like opinion, answers, responses and opposing or supporting stands no matter what the subject.

If you're looking for the general direction being followed by the herd there must be better ways to discern it than running a poll. If your goal is to see what diversity there is amongst the group there is a certain stiffling of that diversity inheirent in the offering of responses that are limited to your own imagination and reflected in your poll response possibilities.

Let's not see a showing of hands, how about an open discussion of the matters at hand instead?

I personally dont read many polls. This was the first one I read in several days. BUT, this is an open forum. If people want to start a poll than they can do that. Unless we take away the poll feature altogether than this poll is one of the useless ones. Just because you say "nobody can start any polls" doesnt mean people wont do it. A whole bunch of people will never read this thread, and sadly there is always somebody who will read this and make polls just to get people angry.

I feel that this thread isnt going to help anything.

Some polls are annoying but others have been very useful as it gives you an idea what the trend is. If the Administrators didn't want them or didn't see a need for them then we wouldn't have an option.

What gives anyone the right to slam polls is beyond me as "If you don't like it, move on and get on with your life and leave the rest of us be".

SO don't be upset with some of the rhetoric as...

Everyone is entitled to an opinion but not all opinions merit entitlement

It's the same with many threads. Some interest me some don't. I read the ones that do and pass the ones that don't. I don't get upset about them, I just don't read them.
We should be glad that we have so many people here at the forum. The other forum that I frequent has 2 regular posters, the moderater and me (and I'm loosing interest).

Apollisapollisapollisapollisapollisapoll. BUT! Sometimes they do open the door for friendly info and debate. I, for one think they should not be banned. If ya don't like polls, don't open em up!!! Don't mean to sound of but I just don't want tosee happen here like in real life. Some people that don't like something say there ought to be a law agaist it-- sooner or later there will be. Ken

Wait! Stop! I just thought that since some people get tierd of seeing them, and it obviously upsets them because they sound off about it, we could cut them a little slack for a bit, thats all.

I think freedom of speach is great! I'm all for expressing ideas! I just thought it might help chill some people out if they didn't see a poll, or at least not as many, for a few days.

It was a rotton idea and I'm sorry I mentioned it.

Can I go back to my corner now?

Pass pass pass pass pass. Whatever happened to the running game? Did you see where Doug Flutie did a drop kick last night?

I didn't vote, by the way. Just like most of our Tweedledee-vs.-Tweedledum elections, I don't see the point.

Well, there are only a few people that sound off about it. Maybe a dozen at most. But they do it frequently and it seems like everyone is upset![:)] Just look back at this thread, not one person said, "We shouldnt have polls anymore!" Some said they should be moderated, which is reasonable if you can figure out how to do it. But MR isnt going to have a moderator on 24/7 thats for sure.

If they dont want to waste time at polls, they should just pass them up, not waste time complaining about how polls would be wasting thier time if they werent wasting time complaining... if that makes any sense...

I just had a thought. Perhaps we could persuade MR to have a sticky with forum rules. And in those rules could be guidelines for poll posting. Not sure what it would say, this just popped into my head.
