RTR or Genesis?

i was think about getting a modern diesle all mine are like gp38's sd7, sd9 ect. i was thinking and

RTR ac4400cw



or a genesis sd70m and sd75 somthing like that.


witch one would be better to get RTR or genesis?

well, the Genesis line is designed to be better running and more detailed than RTR, i have a RTR AC4400 and i love it- why not get both of them- or you could get a KATO AC4400 or SD75M that may be better than Genesis and it has the same M.S.R.P.- if money is no object go w/ Genesis or KATO, if you'd like an affoardable, hard working engine go w/ RTR The RTR's do make noise but not bad

There both fine looking works of art. I have the Genesis SD-70M in ILLINOIS CENTRAL black. A great runner and decent proto-type. Ive had it for two years and runs great. looks great.The RTR AC4400 looks great also, hard to decide. either one would look respectable on any layout.[:)][#welcome]

if you are going to get a genesis SD70/SD75. You would be better off getting a Kato. I used to have 3 genesis SD70MACs, but I sold them and bought 2 Katos. The Katos are a little more expensive, but well worth the difference.

Be a Modeler find an rpp shell and build it yourself.

I garuntee you will have much higher level of satisfaction with it.

I don't own any Genesis locomotives, due to the fact I haven't seen one in CPR livery yet.

I do however love the RTR units I have purchased.

They could use some more weight but to me that's only a minor problem.

Well best to vist your local hobby shop and test run both engines.Now the Genesis will need KD couplers added.The Kato is not a true RTR engine..You see one must add all the detail parts and will need KD coupler.

Your choice to make not ours..[:D] I would go with the RTR.

not all KATO's need parts assembled- the DASH 9 comes with couplers http://www.katousa.com/ho-scale/C44-9W.html

I just nearly buy from Athearn Genesis but not yet buy it and see why that RTR is better than Genesis

OUT OF 11 Genesis engines: 2 developed bad motor's; One wont stay on the track.
5 Athearn RTR's; 1 motor is noisy.
16 Kato's; 0 defect's - but I had to assemble handrails & grab' s.

I find Athearn has more Quality Control issue's that Kato doesn't have, and all 3 require some handrail assembly. So?

If you want a Genesis SD70, I recommend a test run before you buy. I bought one online, and it had warped trucks which had to be replaced (Athearn did replace them free). Others have reported the same problem.

I have 2 SD70 Genesis engines and they run great.
My RTR F7A is not bad either, not too noisey acctually.
Unfortunately I have no experience with Kato, yet!!!

Our lone RTR Athearn (GP35), didn't come with any of those details either. The only thing it really has going for it is crisp paint. After it and our Genesis Mikado experience, I'm done with Athearn all together.

which one better Kato or Athearn Genesis ?
Because I'm going buy it SD70MAC for my layout
