Politically Correct New Year?
Posted by tatans on Saturday, December 31, 2005 8:48 PM
It's 10:45 pm New Years Eve, is it O.K. to wish all the strange train people out there a happy new year or is there another greeting that should be used in our new P. C. world ? ? ------aw crap ! Happy New Year---keep on trainin'

Politically correct New Year? Thought that just applied to "Merry Christmas" (Happy Holidays or Season's Greetings to those who find it offensive.) I haven't heard that Happy New Year was offensive, at least not yet....

But just in case... Best Wishes to all for the coming Year!

Whenever anyone says P.C., the intials immediately make me think of "Public Commode", which I'm hoping is where "Politically Correct" may eventually wind up.
HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYONE!!!

I think you're just fine with "Happy New Year". The "strange train people" remark might offend some. LOL
And you've left out the normal train people.
That hardly seems fair![:D]

THANK YOU, twhite!! I agree 100% with your statement. The entire concept of
'Political Correctness' is offensive. We are creating an even more artificially
divided society with this madness.

However, HAPPY NEW YEAR!! to all of you.[soapbox][:D]

I thought that on this forum "PC" only meant "Penn Central".

Happy 2006 A.D. (Anno Domini - translated: "in the Year of Our Lord"). Man, we just can't get away from these religious overtones! [:D]

So, coming from a heathen like me...Happy 2006 C.E. (common era)!

Political Correctness? I like Penn Central better.

Frankly, IMHO, we cry "personal freedom" in this country and yet, the "political correctness" extremists (yes, including the ACLU) are trampling on the very freedoms they claim to be protecting. They are a very small minority yet, we choose to give them our full attention thanks to our politically active media.

The tragedy is that, through our public school systems, kids and teens are being brainwashed with this "pc" tripe while also being "quietly" taught that the government "owes them" something (I'm a teacher, see it daily, and do my part to "keep it real" with my students). School system leaders today show little backbone due to "fears of litigation" from the ACLU, so they often give in. Only parents willing to take an active part in their kids life to counteract some of the garbage being fed into their minds can make the difference.

As for those of us modelers that are seasoned (o.k, over 30) let's continue to encourage our younger, fellow-modelers to keep postive values and help promote this great hobby of ours! I used to think that young folks mostly "blow off" the wisdom adults share with them, but I discovered that when a lot of those young folks hit age 20 or 25, the advice they heard and seemed to ignore suddenly kicks in! So it is worth the hassle!

So, be true to yourself! If you want to say Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, or cool beans....go for it!

In today's Politically Correct world one must apprecticate that only some cultures celerbrate a year change at midnight of the final day of December. Thus, only "Happy January 1st" will be considered as correct in P.C. America any longer.

But to **ll with the P.C. modern world, "Happy New Year!" all!
