You might want to take a 20 LBS sledge hammer and wack the puter a couple of times ,just to make sure its not the puter.[:D]

Try narrowing your search terms. For example, if you know an item was posted in "General Discussion," don't search "All Forums." Also try to narrow down the date parameters if possible.

Good luck!

Tom's right. Just remember, to do that you need to click on 'advanced' search. You can't just type some key words in the box at the top of the page and hit Go!

I've had great success using the search function.

I'm not overly happy the way the search works. The few times I've used the advanced method I did searches on particular words and specified in the post titles only. I get pages and pages of posts, mostly from the Coffee Shop posts, none of which are relevant nor do they have the word in their title. Something must be not working here.

What I've found from experience is that you have to know what you are looking for in order to find anything around here. Narrowing down the date, the particular forum, and a good keyword helps.

Perhaps the reason the Coffee Shop posts keep coming up is due to overly general keywords. Saying something like "weathering" around here doesn't cut it. Looking for something specific that you remember is much easier than just looking for keywords. There is getting to be too much material for the search engine to plow through.

A message like that usually means a problem with MR's server. It has nothing to do with what you are searching.

Since this seems to be a persistant problem, I suggest you contact MR and tell them about the problems you're having.

Yes, but if you ask the search to be in the Subject lines only, it still dredges up all sorts of messages that don't have the word you are looking for in the Subject. Maybe in the message body, but that's not what you asked for.

So it does not (or maybe never did) work properly.

Bob, I noticed that too. There was a time, more than a year ago, that the search worked better, but they made some changes, and removed some options from the advanced search. Since then it has become far less powerfull and accurate.
