Anyone else having a hard time getting track? I ordered one box of Shinohara code 100 and 3 #8 turnouts allof which are out of stock. I cancelled the order and no I am debating once again on code, do I use the old standard of 100 or go with the new 83. Oh and I hate Peco's designations of large medium and small on turnouts. This does not work for me I am not ordering a drink at the fast food joint, I want actual numbers. I did a search looking at code 83 there are much larger turnouts available in 83 #8's and #10's in Shinohara which would make big boys and challengers look really sharp.

Was looking at a new box of Atlas code 100 track at the hobby shop last night and noticed that they have revised the nubs (spike heads) that hold the rails to the ties.

While they are not as small/fine as the code 83 they are a lot smaller than the old code 100 track from earlier production.

So the old excuse that the code 100 track is not as prototypical with the big spike heads is not much of an issue any more!

But the debate will still rage on! Round two!

shinohara makes the code 83 for walthers but it will have the walther's "Code 83 " label on the box...if it's a "shinohara" brand name on the box , it will always be code 100 in other words:

shinohara brand = code 100 rail

walther's "code 83" brand = Code 83 rail (but is still made by shinohara)

Yes it is a pain to get code 83, have you looked at ATls 83, easy to get (Train World) and a LOT cheaper. I have 118 turmouts and 650 ft of track and am very satisfied with the fit and finish of the product.
