BLI diesel still won't shut down.

I pressed F9 at various intervals and the motor still just keeps idling and the air pump keeps filling the air tanks. I noticed also that the front headlight is dim all the time and the backup light is full intensity. Is this a general thing with the small switchers?

Bruce,

What DCC system are you using? I have the Bachmann E-Z Command and the F9 button won't shut my BLI 2-8-2 down either. I sorta chauked it up to the limitations of the Bachmann. F10 turns my lights on and off, not F0 - like all other systems.

Tom.
I have a Digitrax Zephyr. My F0 turns my lights on and off. There was some instructions with the BLI that said 128 speed steps are required for this loco. I think the Zephyr has this but I don't know how to check it.

Bruce,
The Zephyr does have 128 speed steps and as long as you haven't change it, it should
be set that way from factory.

As for the shutdown, I can't speak for the switcher, but the two QSI E's that I have shutdown
everytime with a double press of F9. Make sure you are double pressing the funtion key.
Good luck, Dave

A BFH will shut um down everytime. As for checking the speed step on the Zephyr, here's how:
1) Select the LOCO address you want to edit.
2) Press the STEPS key. The display will choices available. you can scroll through the choices by pressing the + or - keys.
3) Once the speed setting you want to use is in the display, press the EXIT key to complete the speed step setting change and return to regular operating mode. I just use what Digitrax recommends. Thats the S 128 mode. Works good for me.

So what you are saying is that your diesel is dieseling on you? Hope you find the solution. We had a Ford tractor on the farm that used to diesel on us for about 10 minutes after it was shut off and that was a gasoline engine. Aren't diesel locos supposed to left idling anyway? Sorry, I counln't resist...

My suggestion would be to contact BLI and ask for help. There may be problem with the decoder as the Zepher should be able to shut it down. If F9 works on other locos, it is probably the decoder or a setting on it.

We'll get there sooner or later!

Bruce, when I do a shut-down using F9 on my QSI Hudson, I do a quick double-press, wait exactly two seconds, another quick double-press, and then a third double-press. NOTE THAT THE PROCESS OF SHUTDOWN TAKES APPROXIMATELY 40 SECONDS FOR THE LOCO TO GO SILENT.

The instructions for the QSI system on my Lionel Challenger state that the first time you attempt to do this procedure, you must do each double-press within two (2) seconds of each other.

Bruce,
I have the solution. I have always used my UT4 throttle to shut down my BLI loco. The problem
is that the Zephyr (at least mine anyway) only supports funtions 1-8. I completely forgot that I
was using the UT4 and not the key pad on the Zephyr itself.

I would suggest getting a UT4 or a DT400, as these will give you access to funtions 1-12. Most
of the new sound decoders have the higher funtions available and the Zephyr will not access
these. The UT4 is fairly inexpensive and worth every penny. Good luck, Dave

I was using a Prodigy Advance and had to "double click" f9 3 times in quick succession for my BLI-E7's to go through the shutdown sequence. For the startup sequence I had to double click f6 twice in quick succession. Good luck!
