Seen COSTCO's latest?
Posted by JohnT14808 on Sunday, December 4, 2005 10:13 PM
I found a new book at Costco today. A 544 page 'Encyclopedia of Trains and Locomotives' edited by David Ross. Has trains from 1825 to present and depicts steam and diesel power from all over the world. Some pretty good history on motive power. Many, many pictures of locomotives and trains. Short concise writeups about the engine type with statistics where available. And some really interesting engine types that might make good models!! I'd like to see some of the 1830 to 1850 engine types as models. They would be something to run around the layout!!

I have that! I got it for my birthday last year! That is a great book, but it's a little out of date and doesn't include the ES44s and SD70ACes and M-2s. Highly reccomended. You van spend hours reading it. it has things like tractive effort, wheel size, horsepower, and others! It's a great book!

I'm pretty sure I have it as well! Great wealth of information, and good, in a way for modeling!
