I happen to like all scales as well, and I am not biased to any particular scale. I am really into O and G right now, but I was into N, HO, and I might start into S. I still like any train, because it is a train.

[#ditto]

Trains are trains, no matter what size. Theyre all great in my opinion. HO just happens to be most practical for me.

I'm not against any scale that anyone chooses to work in, My eyesight keeps me from working in anything smaller than HO and even that is getting hard to see nowadays!

Personally, I'm very much biased against boiler scale. It tends to insulate the heating surfaces of the firebox and tubes and reduces steaming capacity. Blowing the boiler down from time to time and a monthly boiler wash will help prevent the build up of boiler scale.

No, I like them all, tried a small N scale setup a few years back, but ended up staying with HO, the N Scale is a bit to small for my handling, but enjoy and like all the different scales.

I really don't like Lionel but, won't say anything against if one chooses three rail over two rail..After all who am I to judge another's hobby enjoyment? Ditto applies to Z scale.

I enjoy all scales. However, I don't think people try to "bash" a scale, they are just pointing out some problems people have faced in the past. Each and every scale has pros and cons.

I wouldn't go so far as to say I'm against it, but I'm not very fond of 3-rail O. Even though I don't care for the look of the 3rd rail, I can still appreciate a 3-rail, O-scale layout. (Case in point: The Lionel Museum in Bryson City, NC. On the other hand, 2-rail is very cool. [tup]

I agree with you. N, too small for some, but good for space, HO, small, but also good for space, S a little bigger, but bulky couplers, O great for little kids, and for scale enthuaists, but three rails, unrealistic, and G for outdoors, but needs a nice amount of space.

I don't like any of those scales smaller than Z or larger than 1:1. They are too hard to get parts for. Bruce

Scale selection really depends on what you want to do and what limitations and resources you have to live with. If those change you should be open to a change in scale. I personally started with HO, switched to O, then to S. Along the way I got my son some N scale and I dabbled in G. While I don't think I will change from S, it's always possible if my space downsizes (I saved all my HO and my O just in case I change later).

I usually recommend that new comers go to a train show that has layouts in all the scales so they can get some idea of what is available and what might be good for them.

Enjoy
Paul

i really really hate HO , it's too big for a decent indoor layout and too small for a decent outdoor layout , so it's pretty much useless

ohhh wait , i model in HO

does this mean i hate myself ?

I don't hate any scale, but when I am asked I point out honestly what problems I have come across in that particular part of the hobby. I do not model O scale anymore, but I had some very memorable times with my son in that scale I will take to my grave. It was a lot of fun, and I will cherish it forever!

I'm not against any scale. I've seen great layouts in just about every scale you can name, including 3-rail Lionel. We all have our own preferences but I'm all for choice. What's right for me maybe wrong for the next guy. I'd never suggest to anyone they should model in a different scale.

I like all scales and gauges. I currently model in On30 and have HO as my secondary scale. There are a lot of advantages and disadvantages to all scales. If I had an infinite amount of time, I would probably try modeling in all scales, gauges, and eras. But in reality I have only a finite amount of time (and money) to devote to modeling.

I'm a train FREAK, so I like them all. Now, I like the larger ones, because I have really big hands. I decided on On30 because of the freedom of expression involved. I can just about throw anything out there, and chances are it had a prototype.

Hi trainfreek92
I am dead against any scale that doesn't give enjoyment to the owner
of the railway.[:D]
But I do seriously object to the weird and wacky scale gauge combinations that its next to imposable to get any parts for[:(]
Because it takes far too long to get anywhere with it and I've only got one life time
regards John
