I have one in HO. Looks great with some decorating. Runs smooth and slow. My only problem, not yet solved, is that the front drive shaft pops out of the U-joint on the one 16" curve I needed at the end of a logging spur. I would hope that a small climax would take 14" curves, but not this one yet.
If you think you have it right, your standards are too low. my photos

Great model, really love mine, especially after spending so much time trying to get the Roundhouse Shay to work better, which I never did.
The Climax is great too!
See the Micro Mark ad in the December RMC - they've got great deals on them, as well as the On30 stuff too!

I also own a Spectrum Climax and I love it. Runs beautifully, veryu well detailed,
and will doublehead with the Spectrum Shay (DC for now). I cannot speak
to the very tight curve issue regarding the front driveline falling out-I have no
curves quite that tight.Yes, they are fairly spendy, but as good as brass
for detail and better in performance (and lower in price), so I would
recommend in favor of the engine.

I have the Spectrum Shay and the Climax. I also have brass Shay's and one Climax in brass and I think the Spectrum engines run better and the detailing is just as good or better. For the money you can't go wrong, in my opinion!
