The UP's older scheme is alright, but I LOVE the UP's flag units. They are with out a doubt my all time favorite.

I didn't like UP's paint scheme on their first SD40-2's. I like the "plain" Union Pacific lettering, numbers, and red stripe.

There's quite a few G scallers that model G you just have to know what stones to look under.

122 acres, and good paying jobs, thats GREAT![:D] you are one lucky guy. dont get me wrong, i have N & HO, they are both great scales, just that like most of us, i think it would be awsome to do what we wanted in G.[:p] its ashame your technologically impaired, i would have loved to see some more UP in G scale. glad to know of two G scale UP modelers now.

First of all I'm technologically impaired, so any pics I take won't make it to my computer. I own the February 2003 Garden Railways so I'm well aware of Marty's work. I also have a family that owns 122 acres of land near Yoakum, Tx.
So I have plenty room for n outdoor G scale layout, and my jobs earn me plenty money.

WOW!, you model UP in G scale, what did you do, win the lottery? i think it would cost a fortune, and you would have to have alot of room to do that. i would love to model UP in G scale, but being a single parent kinda makes it hard to find the money to do it, and renting doesnt help either. have any pics of your layouts? I only model the UP in Nscale and G scale completely opposite ends of the spectrum.

GREAT THREAD![:D] i am a huge UP fan.[;)] i collect & model UP in HO and N. have lots of UP in models, and tons(and i mean TONS) of UP pics, new and vintage. i like all the newer stuff UP has, but its the vintage diesels & gas turbines i like the best. though i do have a soft spot for the big boy.[:p] if any of you follow the photo fun threads, you have seen some of my stuff. heres a couple pics i havent posted yet. the first two are HO, the last one is in N.

Ahh yes, another UP unit leased to the leasers. I've seen several UP units with yellow, red, and/or black tape through the UP lettering and logo. They kept the same number and added their reporting marks. I assume UP leased these to the leasing companies, because most of the ones I've seen are modern locomotives.

Funny you should mention D&RGW. I saw(and have photos of...but they're film)a D&RGW Geep, probably a 40 or 40-2. It was unpatched, and switching my local yard. This was back in, say, 1998 or 1999. Is this weird, or was there still unpatched D&RGW's running around?

I guess what really got me started on UP was the purchase of a pair of Southern Tier Modelworks UP locomotives. I have now incorporated UP into my new layout. I basically have CSX/UP, with BNSF rights on the UP tracks and NS rights on the CSX tracks.

I'm going to need a huge lower-level staging yard.[8D]

Does anybody know a spot where CSX and UP tracks meet? I know there are thousands of them...

Since I live in Tennessee, I really never see any UP to speak of, except for trips to Nashville and other areas.

I know, it's half-crap. It was coming through Kayne fast, though, and I had to get the shot off. It was taken at Kayne Yard in Nashville, TN. I took it off the balcony of Union Station, now a Wyndham hotel.

rgroeling-Great pics! Iwas going to model CP Rail but it's too hard to find their stuff where I live. I decided to go with CSX and UP with a little CP thrown in. I was surprised to see some pics of CSX and UP running in a consist so I figured ,What the heck?

Oh thanks!!!!! [:D] The first two and the last one are taken with a Sony Cyber Shot 3.2 megapixel point and shoot thing and the rest are taken with my dads Nikon D70 digital SLR that he is kind enough to let me use. About the angles and blue skies, those pics can also be seen on railpictures.net, they are a very very very picky wbsite, and they only take blues sky shots. I only model the UP in G scale and N scale. My HO line is a freelanced shortline where the UP has trackage rights and frequently uses them.

I model a fiction branchline in Idaho, in the summer of 1954. It leaves the UP at a spot called Podunk Junction and in theroy heads off into the Owhyees. Unfortunately I only have a 4x8 which could be any typical small western town.

Here are some shots I got while railfanning the local line.
