Good. Another idea is to tell Ashley and Amber what the rules for trips are. Rules do not apply to personal parts of any trip.

Well if it is a club trip then we will need to go last or first but not in the middle of everything. If it is a personal trip then it doesnt matter but the club will not pay for gas. We will have to pay out of our pocket. The last trip was great but I think we have gotten away from the point of the club. The trips revolve around the trains. Im not blaming anyone but from now on when we have a club trip 80-90% of the time needs to be spent at railroad locations.

I lived in Kankakee, IL up thru my high school years. K3- as we all called it- was a big I.C. town... "...all along its southbound odyssey, etc." It was also an interchange with the New York Central. The interesting part of that was the fact that the Big Four (the Chicago, Cleveland, Cincinnati and St. Louis, or CCC&StL- the NYC's Cinci-Chicago line- actually terminated at Kankakee. The I.C. pulled the Big Four trains the final 60 mi. to Chicago. This meant two of everything; two roundhouses, two engine terminals... I am JUST old enough to remember steam(contrary to common belief, the I.C. was the last class one carrier to dieselize- officially in 1961)- there were all kinds of I.C. steam, plus NYC Hudsons, Mohawks, and...you name it! I am 56- My parents moved from Chicago to K3 in 1953. I can remember my grandfather "Running the Panama". The section along U.S. 54 was one of the fastest stretches in the U.S.- and the Panama Limited one of the fastest trains in America. Grandpa had a '52 Coupe deVille Cadillac. I can remember pacing many freights with 4-8-2s and 2-8-2s. But one day- in 1953( we were in the process of moving; we'd make the 55 mile trip every weekend- it was great trainwatching!) My grandpa, grandma, mother and I were in The Coupe, my Dad in his '52 Roadmaster Buick. The Panama rolled up alongside, resplendant in orange and brown, slant-nose E6s gleaming...just a-smokin'!!! Grandpa put his foot in it and not long after shouted,"That's a hundred!" Then Grandma: "Frank you're gonna kill us all". Frank: "A hundred-six!" Mom: "Dad!" My father: He was way too far back in that straight-8 Buick to comment... The Limited had been clocked at 115 mph on that stretch. Andy Griffith did a comedy bit about "The Pan-ay-maw Limeeted!" "If'n yer standin' there, and somethin' blows by SO fast, you caint tell what it is... that's th' Pan-ay-maw Limited!"

I had a bunch of Lionel 'til Xmas, 1959. I received an Athearn HO set that Christmas. I had the I.C. F3s by Lionel, but there weren't any I.C. models in HO. It took me 43 years to get to that. After a long stretch of On3 and a longer stretch of disinterest- I returned. I bought a 2-8-0 and a 2-8-2 on eBay... then a 2-8-4 and a 4-8-2. after a couple modules, I am just in the planning stages of an I.C. Kankakee to The South(an excuse for my S.P. equip-ment...), with staging on either end, representing Chicago and the S.P.(T&NO). There is also going to be a loop representing the GM&O- long-dieselized by '52- another road I have always liked. Ultimately, I'll get a few NYC engines. The James Whitcomb Riley went through Kankakee. Also, there was a spur to the Amberg File and Index Co. The NYC service the company daily with 0-6-0s. My pals and I would meet himwhen we heard thewhistle and the engineer would throw us candy. When the first SW diesels appeared in 1956, we were excited, but that turned sour when we realized that they carried no candy! Anyway, I'd like to model Amberg's spur.

The I.C. is a tough road to model... especially steam. There have been only five or six steam engines that have ever been imported. The Casey Jones Ten-Wheeler doesn't count! But if you mix in a few black Proto 2000 Geeps and SWs... along with the GM&O trains and the NYC-... it works out OK. I will have only one terminal. But the flat lands will look OK. I have built a few elevators and feed & seed mills... And the Speedway. I'll use that for the visitors who say, "Is that as fast as it'll go?"
