A good video about the Illinois Central is from Herron Rail Video at http://www.herronrail.com
Their IC video is entitled Mid-American Glory, Illinios Central Railroad, and covers the time period from the 1940's into the 1960's.

I plan on getting a lot more engines so I can model the IC in the "right" way. I like that IC GP9M. I will probably get one or two of those so I can rebuild them into GP10's for local service. I also will need to get a couple of those GP40's for intermodal service.

i'm glad you like the C&NW - it was painted w/ a brush- a labelmaker was used for the Chicago-North Western "decals" and the road # is from the IC paint ----sounds like you got yourself some good engines-- do you plan on getting any more engines? and what is the Trainline GP9 like? here's a link: http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/931-133

the C&NW engine was painted by my grandfather quite a long time ago (don't know for sure -maybe 15 yrs. ago) that engine has a LOT of hours on it -the brushes on the motor are worn down quite a bit- still runs good- it's a little weak on power but it's not overly loud-- someday the motor will have to be rebuilt-- if i ever get anythng done on my layout i'll post pics- i hope to have 2 engine houses near the end of the new part- but that'll have to wait a while and i'm gonna add a few more yard tracks

icmr i know you're busy w/ the new site but i'd like to see some more layout pics- well here's my layout- it's 4'x12'
the first pic shows the old portion and the second pic shows what i added -third pic shows a C&NW Athearn GP38 that was a former illinois central but was painted as you see it now (i didn't paint it- i'd never paint over an illinios central) it would have been all black with a black diamond logo on each cab side
