Thats a good plan. I have GMR 2003 and the plan is on page 75. It is in N scale so you will have to modify it just a little but overall it is a good plan.

Thanks for the IC numbers.

got the april MR today and on the "new products" page there's the BLI IC SD40-2 w/ sound.
HUGE LAYOUT UPDATE when I add on I'm going to tear up the old yard and build a new 9 track yard which is modeled after Chicago Great Western's Oelwein, IA yard. I'm also going to have a roundhouse. The story is- IC bought CGW and got their huge yard and their engines.
I'm going to run CGW FP7's and other F units and GP7's / 9's and SD40's. (which I will have to paint and decal). And Kato has a RS-2 decorated for CGW.
Don't worry I still like IC. This 9-track yard is going to be SO cool.

Here's the trackplan http://www.cgwrr.com/Oelwein.htm you can see in blue the 9 yard tracks and a 6 stall roundhouse. My yard will be pretty much like that and it'll take up a good portion of my layout.

Thats a lot of IC power. Sounds good dingoix. Im not getting any BB or Athearn RTR engines. The only reason I will get any SD70's is to rebuild them into new units or put new trucks, wheels, and motors in them and also weigh them down.

Made the return round trip, St. Louis-UofI today.....on the way up US 45 a northbound was in the siding at Neoga, Illinois...motive power was IC SD70 1004 / CN Dash9-44CW 2712 / IC SD70 1028 / IC SD40-2 6255 (in CN paint) / IC SD70 1030.

I don't know if I can get the second one before the sale ends. I think I will.

The ONLY GE's to ever run on my IC will be 1 or 2 Dash 9's (which are DC).

When I eventually get SD40's and SD40-2's they might be Kato. I was originally going to get B-B but after I got my Atlas GP40 I don't ever want another noisy B-B again (except for the illinois central SE SD40-2 set)

Now I think I may want a single track mainline

on the plus side-
- requires much less track
- 18" curves would be completley gone
- would look better
minus side-
-only 1 train at once

The reason Im not getting AC GE units for my railroad is because IC didnt have them in the 90's. I like your ideas for new engines dingoix. Everytime you watch your video you learn more. Now you need the second one.

That is cool bwilcox.
QUOTE: I will only paint DC EMD units IC
I will admit I'm not a huge GE fan, but them -9's must be good as BNSF has over 1,700 of them[:0]. I want some new EMD power someday, preferably AC units (SD70ACe). The reasons to go AC are
- less risk of motor burnout when lugging heavy loads
- no chance of motor brushes shorting out over rough areas (aka. grade crossongs)
reasons to go DC
- lower cost

Someday I want to build my GP38-2RW. A GP38-2 Rebuilt (R) with a GE AC4400CW cab (W).

I also noticed on the IC video the only power for coal trains was SD40's and SD40-2's. I always figured SD70's were used on coal trains. I also used to think the SD70's were used on intermodal trains. Now I know.

On the ride north from Effingham on I-57 this morning we say two southbounds south of Mattoon. First one had a CN Dash9 / IC SD70, second one had a CN SD75M / BNSF Dash9.

And now for something completely different.....this afternoon, while returning to St. Louis from the University of Illinois at Champagne/Urbana on US 45, I saw a few of IC/CN's more unusual locomotives. Just south of Chambananaland was a northbound with a UP SD70M / Dash8-40CW / SP SD45 / IC SD40X 6071 (ex-GM&O, ex-EMD SD40 prototype on SD35 frame). Farther south I encountered a southbound grain train which I chased from South Tuscola to Mattoon....motive power was ex-LMSX Dash8-40CW's 2466 / 2462 still in ratty Conrail blue with CN logos and IC initials on the cab.

Now I want an NS Dash 9 to paint for IC http://www.athearn.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=ATH80894 I'd like at least 2.

I like the IC E9's. I sure wish someone would release a model of one in that paint scheme. Microscale has the decals but i bet it'd be kinda tricky to put the long stripe on the sides. If i absolutley HAVE to have one I'd try those decals. Speaking of "E's" there an IC P2K E8 at my LHS for $55. I'm thinking of getting it next time I go down there.

I added a few inches to the sides of the narrow part of my layout so it's wide enough that i can double track. And I'm painting the first backdrop section tomorow.

I've got my engine service facility planned out. I'm going w/ the 2 stall shop instead of 3 stall because I'm going to have a fueling area beside the shop.
shop http://www.discounttrainsonline.com/Pikestuff-Building-Engine-House-Modern/item541-8.html
sanding will be in front of shop
http://www.discounttrainsonline.com/dto/item147-5100.html
fueling will be beside shop http://www.discounttrainsonline.com/dto/item322-112.html

That's all for now.
