You can tell ,Christmas is almost here when.......
Posted by dragonriversteel on Sunday, November 6, 2005 6:12 AM
Hello all,

Searching E-bay,on a daily basis for all types of goodies. I recently came across six......yes six walthers rotary dumpers. Not to mention, a few walthers bascule bridges.
This time of year, model railroaders lose their minds. My wife just bought me a walthers coal floodloader, and after that I found even more train stuff on e-bay. The model train bug,has infected me in a real bad way.
To bad, the monthly bills out weight the model train finances this month. If the money was right, there would be a new rotary dumper and a bascule bridge in the mix.

I've got one of those rotary dumpers already - when one showed up in the LHS a couple years ago, I immediately called my wife.

And indeed, it showed up under the Christmas tree.

Perhaps in a year or two my layout will reach the point where I can actually build the thing.

Finally found out what a coal flood loader is, found a photo of one in walters book, and of course, it's out of stock and retired.

You can tell Christmas is almost here when you have to keep reminding family and friends that you really prefer to buy your own equipment for your 1925 steam era layout. Then spend hours practicing the surprised and very pleased look, "Oh wow! A Bachmann 52' center-depressed flat car with a missile on it. Won't that look great right behing the mogul!" Or, "Gee, how nice a Conrail 50' boxcar!"

The fun part of course is keeping straight who gave you what so whenever they happen by you can have those items ready to roll on the layout tour. "Oh look, see, I knew that Intermodal car would be just the thing for your toy train thingy stuff." [;)]

You know Christmas is only a few months away when the March of next year issues for magazines show up. Oh yeah, Easter stuff starts lining the shelves at various retail establishments.

Does it come in a non-sound-equipped version (the girlfiend, not the loco)? I'd like one of _those_ for XMAS.

Seriously, what Ray says... December is Christmas, and January is when I see most of the "well-intentioned but...uh... no." stuff on Ebay. Sorry, the bimodal with the two semi trailers just doesn't fit 1930's PRR...

I've never personally seen one, but folks I know say that the non-sound-equipped girl/boy friend somehow, despite any equipment noncompatabilities or desire not to upgrade - sometimes automatically and mysteriously upgrade to spouse (sound-equipped). [:0][:0]

I do have to say - that my wife is my biggest supporter in this hobby (you guys run a very very close second!) and the above was said totally tongue in cheek. Don't want any coal in my stocking this year!
