Can you guys beleive thiss??? I had a couple of tyco's as a teenager and that was was a long time ago. Collector or not this just doesen't make sence to me.

I can believe it, Ive seen heaps of MR 2nd hand (and sometimes junk) stuff on e-bay go for WAY more than new price, people seem to get wraped up in being the highest bidder at all cost, truly bazzare......

Gotta love the HUGE sideframes on that thing. My favorite tyco would have to be the GG1 that sits on top of two 6 axle trucks. Oh Tyco....

HAH!! That's NOTHING...I used to be really heavy into HO slotcars,I have friends that still are..6 months ago,I saw '65 Thunderjet Ford Cobra,NIB,factory painted black go for..[Anton,drumroll please...] THIRTY SEVEN HUNDRED DOLLARS!!!!![8][8][8] There were over 300 bids on it!!!! Man,people are NUTS.

I will stick to the scrap heaps that go on their for pennies a unit. Then I can afford to spend thirty buck or so on a set of gears, a motor and a decoder to get them to run. Maybe another $10.00 if they need trucks.

I must be a locomotive fan becasue I seem to have oober amounts of locomotives comparied to freight cars. Right now If I put a train with each locomotive we are looking at 5 or 6 cars per train. I need some rolling stock and fast.

This guy has some really old Athearn stuff and thinks he has some valuable collectibles. Unreal, just unreal.

Well, at least he's honest. He really doesn't know anything about trains.

Well, the first guy with the Tyco GP-20 is obviously right, it is collectable because the bid is up there. (Note on the box flap they spelled Mobile without the "E")

The second guy is probably going to be disappointed in the fact that he won't get bids. He may have some collectable stuff in that lot, but the poor pictures and no description of the items is going to work against him.

But gotta love that kitbashed, extra long F unit. [:D]

Like everything else, the stuff is worth whatever somebody will pay I guess. As far as I'm concerned P.T. Barnum must have penned his "There's a sucker born every minute" line while perusing the "collectables" at Ebay.

The collectors market is different from model railroading. It doesn't have to run or be accurately done. Look at the toy train collectors. Rarity, condition, and boxes determine the price.

It would be really "comical" if the winner waited a month or so, and put this old girl up for bid on ebay!

Something to consider. There are sellers on Ebay that instead of using the "Reserve" method, have family members or friends that "Bid Up" items for them. If the price is not satisfactory, the friend still gets the good feedback and the seller puts the item up again for bidding. Ah, the games that people play!

I noticed this with two Ebay sellers that continue to put out the same "rare" units for bid over and over.

Yeah, "it's a Tyco" but it is funny. To collectors sometimes the stuff that was considered "junk" actually goes for more than the higher quality stuff because folks just threw them away. I remember when I was a kid, we used to clip baseball cards to the forks of our bicycles to make that "clicking" sound and would have laughed at anyone who tried to keep the cards "mint." I used to think that an ad to buy the whole 1973 topps set for like 15.00 was stupid - where's the fun in that? Sure wish my 73 cards were still in mint condition now and I had bought a couple of those complete sets!!


I do think that before we go calling people "stupid" "fools" etc for what they are willint to pay for something they want - we should remember that very many people think we are the same because we will pay more money for an engine 'cause it has wire grab irons instead of molded on ones. To each his own.
