Hey Loathar, pal you have it easy. I to,have a four legged terror. A jack russell terrier named Rowdy, my dog flips out at the mere sight of a flash of light. The light you ask ? Let 's count the ways my dog drives me nuts, while working on the trains. He flips out at the following light from, hobby lamp, flashlight ,laser light, shiney pots and pans, street light, car head lights, locomotive head lights, mostly my work bench hobby light. Man,this dog could be two rooms away and hear the flick of the switch to the bench light. Then the following bark ,jump, growl and case the floor. Although he hasn't destroyed any of my models yet,the day is coming ,I'm sure. So for now all you can do is pick up the pieces and rebuild. Oh and by the way ,I'll rent you my JRT,so you can deal with that cat in a way that ,there's no blood on your hands LOL.

P.S Rowdy loves cats, that's his favorite animal to chase .

For real. You know one thing that pisses me off? People killing birds in the backyard for target practice. I understand if your hunting , and your going to have it as a meal . I think its horrible to abuse pets. Ya, i would have been REALLY pissed if that happened to me. But you know what, WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU SHOOT YOUR PET. I honestly think you have a sick mind if you even were thinking about it. I have 2 cats and 2 dogs. I love them all, but i like my cats more because they are more gentle, they dont jump up and they dont bark for 5 minutes. Not trying to sound mean, but its not funny to hurt things because they made a mistake. Here, how about the next time you make a mistake, like blowing through a stoplight, the cop says " man , i should have shot them " . Just my [2c]

LMAO. YOu guys crack me up![:D]

But seriously, if your cat goes on your layout, use .22 "rat blasters." You know ...... those .22 caliber shotshells .... have like 50 grains of #12 shot. Great for pest control out to about 15 feet.

You really don't want to use a regular bullet on the cat, because you'll get cat innerds from the exiting bullet all over your nice layout.

Poor you, poor cat.

Hope you can get your railroad back up and fully operational, and your cat into its proper sleeping spot.

that said, i'd never shoot a cat, or any other living thing, nor eat it, nor hurt it

Alec, (wctransfer) my sentiments EXACTLY. Why do people enjoy killing a living thing for no reason other than for their pleasure? In the forest, a bear doesn't kill for fun, it needs the food!

I wonder how many would still be saying " Just shoot it " if it was their 2 year old nephew who busted up their stuff.....just wondering out loud.

   Have fun with your trains

Good point. I would never shoot my cat anyway. I'd just blame it on a stray or something.[8D]

A cat does what it does because of its nature. So does a human. A cat doesn't know that it is a cat, but a human knows that he/she is not a cat, and can therefore use that intellectual power to to excuse the animal. If the human accepts responsibility for controlling the cat's will in any way, the human must have the decency, ethically, to blame him or herself when the mistake is not attributable to the cat.

In other words, the cat did not know it had a choice of knocking over the trains or refraining from doing so. It only knew that it had an interest on the place where we know the trains happened to be.

OMG! Thats freaking terrible! My temper is so bad, I'd probably would've shot the cat on the spot.
I don't have any pets, so theres no danger of cat recking anything. Good luck in fixing the damage.

James, didnt i say hunting was ok by me? I understand how some of you may not like the wild, and i know sometimes i wanna kill this stinkin woodpecker right by my window , but i dont because they dont know what they are doin is bad. Everyone that doesnt think that what im saying is right, but heres the dealio. If you have the temper to hurt something when mad, in this case a cat, DONT BUY A PET! Its your fault it got in there, not the cats. Although, that Dash 8 sounds pretty good, even though you say its in a couple peices. Just remember, things happen for a REASON. Sometimes in cruel ways but still.

At least the cat was smart enough to pick on the biggest piece of crap on your layout!
I would be very thankful for that!!
But I would still use the cat for target practice with my Glock .40!!!!

I have actually put our cat on the layout to see what he would do. He just walked around and sniffed things. He appeared to be careful not to knock anything over. At times at night I can hear him gingerly stepping over things on the dresser in the bedroom without knocking anything over. The time that he did knock things over was when there was a closeby thunder clap that made him bolt. Then things went flying. I would guess that your cat was scared or was chased by something.

Just put some cayenne pepper wherever the dang cat was on the layout and THAT should put an end toTHAT. Saw that somewhere on page 2 of this thread.

Best part of this is it works on Cats AND Dogs.

I'd sprinkle that tunnel portal especially.

the spring loaded door closers help a bunch. The FEMA beast of my last layout made the error of jumping onto the tracks when i had an old unit running with mucho power on and he had just been outside in the rain .
Junior went into the vertical take off mode and was not seen for two days. 11 volts will not HURT the cat but the cat will believe he is undergoing a near death experience.

Also if using a squirt gun keep it in the fridge and aim under the tail. You will learn where the term CATapult comes from.

I havent had my whole layout wrecked by a cat but I have had a MTH 3-rail A-A set killed by a cat and my cousin. My cat knocked it over the first time and my cousin the second. My cats used my old layout for a bathroom and a daycare for their kittens. I have not let anymore cats in and if I find one I do anything to get it out of the room. Our garage door broke so the cats CANT get in now.

I used to have a problem with my cat stealing things from the layout room. An HO scale Jaguar E-type was of particular interest. He made off with that so many times...that I eventually bought him his own. But, he doesn't want that one...he wants mine! Oh well, at least he has good taste in cars :p

$1.00 wooden and copper wire mouse traps and 1 cent worth of peanut butter placed inside the little curled end with a toothpick. It has to be INSIDE...only. Mouse gets to work with tongue in the curl, and (........nothing.... ever more.....)

Got rid of my cat problem the easy way.

The ex got all three of them from the divorce.

(Reminds me of a story. Way back when, one of my NCO's asked if he could leave work a little early because he needed to pick up a Christmas present for his son, who was 4. I asked him what he was getting him. The NCO said "a drum set." I of course said "a drum set? for a 4 year old? you've got to be kidding!!! why would you ever do something like that?" His answer? "The ex got custody." Told him to go get that present now!
