Forum Members, Please be considerate when using photos with your signature......

Hello Crew,

Amigos, don't let this thread rub any of you negatively as this is not the intent. But, quite a number of you have either large photographs or multiple photos in your signatures that always appear in every post you make.

The photos are nice but problem is that guys like me, that can only afford the slow dial-up internet services, wind up waiting an incredibly long time whenever clicking on a thread that contains posts from several forum members with large photos accompanying the signature.

On one popular thread I waited a full 5 minutes for it to open up. I wondered why it took so long......then I saw that 3 of the posters had huge photos. [:0][:(]

It's never a problem with the smaller photos or even the long rectangular photos that are about two inches high.

Gentlemen, it's entirely up to you. Again, your photos are beautiful but please consider replacing them with smaller photos. [;)][8)]

I agree with you entirely in this matter, I have very little time to go through the threads and when it takes minutes to load one page it decreases the time I have to read and respond.

Definitly. I used to have a big Multimark in my sig, but took it out after a day or so because it was so big, and I didn't want to be inconsiderate. I do enjoy those pics, however looking at them EVERY time gets annoying.

I would resize mine...but it always messes the photo up! I shall take it out immediately, as I just realized how large it is.

AntonioFP45 is absolutely correct! Any photo you post should be 100K or less in size. That's one of the reasons I don't view the "Weekend Photo Fun" anymore. It just takes too long to load the page. Thee are ways to decrease the size of your pics without losing the content.

Agreed. Anything over about 80-100k is going to be a real pain for dial-up folks. My own logo sig is 4k. In practically every photo software there are options to resize photos, which would greatly speed up some of these threads.

O(k give us a size to shoot for,I think this has been on here before,and we will try and keep things small,but to small and and they can't be seen,by the way how is the size on mine?????

i have a high speed dsl, but even when i tried to get on coffe shop it took forever cause of all the pics

I'm sure people just didn't realize that it isn't cool.

I have a cable modem, so speed is not a problem....but, to see the same large photos,,,,,post after post after post ........sometimes many posts in the same thread ..... it gets old.

I love all the train photos you guys have .... model and prototype ...... but the really large photos in the signiature are like typing in all CAPS.

Same here... People feel the need to post 10 photos per post when they could provide a link to a gallery instead.. I quit looking at that thread weeks ago (and I've only been on here a couple months).. But, As the OP said, it's entirely up to the poster.. We can choose not to wait and participate in the threads as well.

That one is 37k, so that's not excessive. It's the ones that are 100's of k or even meg that would be the real drainers.

Your picture is only about 36k which is not a problem. Most modern digital cameras take picture at about 800k or above. Its not the physical size, but the storage size that makes them hard to load on slow connections. There are a number of photo working programs out there that you can use to "save" the pictures in a lower storage format and get them down to somewhere around 30-80k in size.

I think we all like to see the various pictures / logos that people use.

Ideally signature images should be under 50K in size, and anything over 100K is too big.

Thanks for all those who are agreeing with the request. I too have dial-up and for years to come it is the only option where I live unless I care to shell out big bucks each month for a satellite ISP. Those dollars could well be spent on such mundane things as food.

So thank you for keeping your photos to a minimum and also understanding that the same thing over and over simply does get boring.

Finally, I fear this whole thread is "preaching to the choir."

Thank you for the post and the concern expressed by all the posters. If you could also give us a little more variety in your selection of pictures(under 100k) it would also be appreciated.
Oleirish, my "properties" reads your picture at 79373bytes, which is appreciated in that it loads relatively quickly. It is 200K to 350K attachments that are bogging us down.

Nothing personal to the couple of members above that included quotes from other posters, which I think were needed to identify what they were responding to. But, many times I see people posting responses to items and including all the pictures and previous quote. To me this also takes up a lot of space, and isnt really necessary. Thank you for bringing up this topic.

I have cable Internet service, so speed is not a problem with me.

You can go to your Profile and turn off those annoying photos very easily. In the area where is asks if you want to view the poster's signature, set it to "text only" and you won't be bothered with photos. There are a couple of other settings there, too.

Works like a charm.

yah, I was thinking about how long my sig was compared to my responses, but I really didn't think about the memory space they were using. Glad to have cleaned out my sig though

The easiest way around this is to go to your personal profile and check off "do not display signatures". I did this many moons ago because some threads were taking a long time to open, even though I have a DSL connection.

No signatures, no problems!

The form got a lot more readable to me when I went into my profile and set
"Do you wi***o view members avatars when reading topics?" To "NO".
I did leave the "view graphics" to yes.

Keep the photos small.

Dailup is on it's way to the boneyard. In the mean time let's try to help those who are stuck in dailup hell by simply using links to photos as I did instead of the actual photo.

Jim, I see someone gave you your answer. You can right click (on a PC) on your pictures and then choose properties and you'll get a box that tells you how 'big' the picture is.
