I would probably be best to ask this question on the Classic Toy Trains forum. That's where the collectors hang out.

I remember that car as an offering in the early 60's. Rare probably not but not much was selling then due to slotcars. So it does have value. The Greenburg guide should tell you a range.

I repainted a lot of those, scrapped some for trucks.
$10 isn't bad if you have to have one.

The car should also have a telephone pole that comes with it. This was part of the car, since it was a generator car,
it was supposed to be able to power a community with temporary power. The car is not too rare.

The car is not particularly rare, but as shown it is not complete. There is supposed to be a power pole, and a searchlight with a magnetic base. The searchlight plugs into a small hole in the top of the car.

The whole thing should sell for maybe $75, with the pole and searchlight being worth perhaps more than the car itself. Reproductions of this car have recently been made, bringing the market for used ones down.

No offense to the widow, but she probably doesn't know the first thing about it. I wouldn't be surprised if her late husband had the other pieces sitting on the shelf nearby.

If I died tomorrow, my relatives would be clueless too. I own one of those with the searchlight and pole.

The door with the white "Z" is mounted upside down - not a good sign but it might have come from the factory like that!
