Uncle Daves
Posted by markpierce on Tuesday, October 4, 2005 10:06 PM
Several months ago I ordered a Division Point FP7B from Uncle Dave. The presumption of the transction was that he had the item it stock. So far, I haven't received the item. I am working with VISA to reverse the charges. Does anyone have similar concerns?

I would like to know the outcome of this because I am considering dropping a good bit of coin with "Uncle Dave". He has good feedback with eBay.

Yes I will.
I had good relations with John (Uncle Dave) in the past, but I sense something has broken down since summer. I'll post results.

I have purchased three brass engines from John in the past two years with no problems in any way.
Was the Division Point model in stock?? I am not aware of the FP7B model. EMD made a FP7 and a F7B with a steam generator, but no model is listed as you have above that I can find in the EMD pages.

Let us know what happens please.

I wnet to Dave's page and listed all of the DV F7Pb, whatever that is below, but they are all sold out. You better get your money back.!!!

I wnet to the DV web page and guess what. They say

® EMD's LATER
F DIESELS:
FP-7s and FP-9s

They came, they went out the door, and yes . . . we're doing a rerun !

they only list FP7's but show A and B sets. EMD did not call the B units FP7B,only Dave has them lsited like that.

Anyway, they are probably on backorder, but no date is given on the web.

Yeah, and I am out about six hundred bucks. I don't know why he needs my money more than I do. Still, I hope he hangs in there. And that VISA protects me.

They seem reputable and have great prices. There must be something else going on. I hope for the best. Don't want to see them get a bad rap because of this thread if everything is on the up and up. Have you talked to them about this?

Mark,

You didn't get charged for the order yet, did you? At least you shouldn't have. I''ve had a special order in with Empire Northern for about 2-1/2 months now (with about 2 months to go) and Tim won't charge me till the shippment is on its way to me.

That.s right, Tom. Taking a deposite is one thing, but charging you the full price in advance is a no-no. It would be just as wrong as if he charged you the taxes and shipping in advance.

I won an N scale Santa Fe E-8 A & B set from Uncle Dave about a year ago on ebay and had no problems at all. Sorry to hear you're having trouble...

Maybe this is a stupid question ........but.........have you contacted John about this? You never said if you called to check up on your order or not. I would think that would be a great place to start.

Uncle Dave is a reputable dealer. I'm sure your card hasn't been charged as yet for this if it's an advance item. Brass importers require full payment before they will ship but that's normally when the item is in the USA at the importer.

I ordered the FB-7B under his bid procedures in mid-June. This was limited to in-stock items, which is his rule. I gave him my credit card info with the understanding the item was in stock. The following day he charged the full price, with shipping. When the item didn't come in a couple of weeks, I tried to contact him by phone and email but got no answer for another couple of weeks. (I assume he was on vacation.) He emailed saying he was having trouble getting the item from Division Point, but that he expected to get the item in a couple of weeks. Over a month later I tried to follow-up, but he has not answered my subsequent emails. My last message to him asked that he reverse the charge as that would be the ethical thing to do. Lacking a response, I contacted VISA last week. VISA said they would reverse the charge and follow up with Uncle Dave's.
