Wow, let's see...since Friday afternoon...

I fired up an old SW-7 that hadn't been on rails in 40 years. And now I know why.

I glued down the bridges (no trolls under them) that cross George's Gorge, and the track down through the yard to the main on the other side.

I laid down the roadbed for the three-ways at the yard throat, and experimented with a Peco switch machine to drive the old Shinohara turnout. I'll need relays to power the frog-end, but it's still cheaper than a new 3-way turnout.

I jacked up a couple of gondolas to get the couplers in spec height-wise, and replaced some wheels.

I put down the roadbed for the old King Coal mine out by Clampett Corner.

I cut and wired track for the inside of the roundhouse, still a round-platform for now, but now able to run engines in and out.

And add to that a couple of already-forgotten honeydo's, some soon-to-be-forgotten videos and watching a how-soon-can-I-forget-this Patriots game, and it comes off pretty good.

Hmmm....[?]

Friday evening was spent in shock and withdrawal. I had not checked in since Thursday night instead of before work and at lunch.

Saturday I was unable to go into the train room without the forum for support so I spent the time expanding my bibliography of Bill Mauldin, finding magazine articles he wrote and books he illustrated for others and some that he wrote forwards and introductions for. I know someone wrote a play a few years ago titled "Willie & Joe" about Mauldin's cartoon solders as they hit retirement but I never did learn his name or what year.

Sunday the wife and I went to some book stores and we found out that Chris Elliott (of Cabin Boy and TV) has written a comic/mystery and will be in Cincinnati signing books on the 14th. We will definitely be there.

Now that the forum is back I can think trains again.

Zero trains-related stuff this weekend. Went fishing with my brother early Saturday and we caught an 18 pound chum salmon. That was it...well, except for a single two-pound rock cod. Then to a 9-hole round of golf with wife's sorority social. Entertained father and his squeeze last night after a day of mucking out the house. Saw wife off to ferry @ 0300 hrs this morning so that she could be bedside for MiL's emergency surgery.

Still no trains, but I'm thinkin'...

Switched a coupled of cars into a factory, ran one train from Black Rock to Mountain Gap, and spent the rest of the weekend from Sat. morning until 11:00 last night at work.

Overall, my weeknd was less than productive, trainwise.

I spent the weekend cleaning track and wheels, dusting the layout, tinkering with accel and decel settings on my DCC locos, waxing diesels and passenger cars, lubing engines, repairing scenery, painting some more figures....

Man, I'm worn out! Hope the forum doesn't go down again for a long time!!!!

Very unproductive, due to forum withdrawal.....Didn't make it to Thursday nights club meeting, so planned to go on Saturday and got blown out of the water with "special" chaeuffering requirements for my 16 year old.....I'll be glad when she can drive on her own......{wait a minute...that's not such a good idea...}
Spent a lot of time on Sat and Sun refreshing the MR forum page.....hoping the forum would come back up...but alas...no such luck!! Got frustrated...quit the Internet...went and played with the kids.

Model railroad wise, negatively productive--I was running an all-weekend music festival, and actually piled all my music stuff in front of Haggin Yard, which means I have to go sort my stuff out before I can do any switching! Other than that, I suppose running a three-day music festival counts as "productive" in someone's book...

next weekend will be trains.

In retrospect, I'm always "productive" on the weekends.

I’ll probably get into hot water by writing this, but if this forum ever went away I think it would be a loss of a quality hobby resource. But that would be all. Life for me would go on as it always does. The same amount of work would get accomplished over the weekend as it normally would. I’m really not that wrapped up this forum that I would actually suffer any sort of withdrawal from it if it went away. To me a hobby is a hobby, and something I enjoy doing in my spare time. It’s not my life.

Well, I didnt do any work on the railroad except for replace the coupler on one side of a freight car with Kadee. Before I convert the other side, im going to show the difference to my friend who im bringing deeper into MR, and if he wants to, ill have a fun but big by my standards (yes, 5 cars, this shows you how little experience I really have. But im still happy!) converting his cars.

Over the weekend, I saw lots of trains in Boston, Red line Subway trains, The Amtrak maintenance facility, Acela, general Amtrak trains, MBTA commuters, and for the first time, a CSX freight operating over the Boston Sub! I knew they were there, and I was constantly wondering where they were. Now i've seen one

I saw the 'notice', but Friday night I was busy working on the layout(did not even eat supper) till almost Midnight. Got a lot done that night. The rest of the staging tracks were laid, and all of the 'trim ties' were glued under the rail joints.

Saturday - Had a 2+ hour drive to a train show/Region BOD meeting(bought a book). After supper, fixed a 'dip' in the track leading to the WB staging tracks(not sure how that happened as I had used a string and bubble). Also set the grade between two towns (I had to move trackage in a 'tunnel' with the realignment).

Sunday - Some 'cleanup' was done to get rid of the construction mess, and get the tools put way. Viking lost....

Monday - Order for Caboose Industries switch stands arrive in the mail. I would have started installing them, but I was committed to finishing the cleanup. After the dust settled, I spent the evening 'lowering' the Pecatonica riverbed about 1.5" so I could use some new Mr. Plaster bridge piers(yes, another plaster mess as I used the sabre saw to cut through the hardshell and plywood). Spent the rest of the night with the shop vac and broom. Packers lost...Went to bed at Midnight.

Actually, if the forum had to be locked for a weekend, this was probably a good one for me to have it happen. Had a local chapter NAACP Dinner that I needed to be at on Friday night (every so often I need to brush shoulders with the local politicians, school board members, and other "big shots"), Fall Camporee for Scouts all day Saturday (Very interesting - Aviation stuff at a local airport with RC planes, skydivers, tours of the hanger, and even a Hot Air Balloon.) Had to be at Church on Sunday early, so it wasn't really until Sunday Afternoon and evening that withdrawal set in.

I am so grateful to see the forum back up and running as its normal "friendly" self now. Thanks again to Bergie and staff!!

There was no "trains" as this community refers to them this weekend for me. However, I did get to view and ride in "trains" my other community refers to them as. This past weekend I took the 6 hour drive from Chicago to Santa Claus, IN and rode some of the best wooden roller coasters out there. My coaster community had an event out there which gave us some exclusive ride time on their 2 amazing wooden coasters after the park closed as well as gave us a tour of their 3rd coaster currently under construction.

Actually, I guess there was a bit of train talk their as an enthusiast friend of mine is a CSX engineer by day.

Almost nil on the MRR front, other than purchasing a bunch of DCC decoders online. Fairly productive on the home front. I'm on layout construction hold right now (possible move), so I am concentrating on finishing structures that are in progress and converting the locomotive fleet to DCC and getting it painted in Bunter Ridge livery. I was not in a mood to solder or break out the airbru***his weekend. Probably not an excuse, since I have four decoder jobs that are simply replacing a light board with a decoder.
