I hate it when......(Updated)

...a MAJOR construction project is scheduled for the building that happens to contain your club's layout. Up until the week prior to work starting, our club had great contact with the Project Manager ( a county employee I personally know and have worked with) to get timing and work related items resolved. The heater boiler is being totally replaced, requiring major overhaul of piping and a complete replacement of a (seems like) 1910 boiler. ( This puppy is OLD, believe me.) The boiler is in it's own enclosed space, but is located in the basement with our layout. Our club is a rent paying tenant of the building.
Now, work started on Monday, the club is SUPPOSED to be meeting tomorrow evening, and I can't FIND anyone who knows anything about whether or not we can have our standard Thursday meeting / ops session. Calls to the Project Manager have gone unanswered, I did see him in the hall at the Courthouse on Tuesday and asked him to be sure to let me know by Wednesday if we could or could not get into the club room. No calls...no email...nothing...and I have not had the opportunity to get by there during the week. It's enough to drive me to a tavern.......
To Op, or not to op....that is the question. I guess we all will just SHOW UP on Thursday evening and find out that the building is locked down. Gads... more calls tomorrow....I hate this! (Sorry for the rant....I had to rant to someone!!) [banghead][banghead]

You may be very happy to have a new furnace this winter my friend, try to look at the positive side, as hard as it is at moments like this.

Thursday.....Well, the Project Mgr. finally let me know that we can have our regular meeting, so we are on for tonight, but I ended up NOT being able to go due to family conflicts...rats!!! Turns out the contractor HAS NOT even started work yet, so we may be good for next Thursday as well.
But the other shoe will fall in January, when the whole building is closed to replace the exterior facade of wood logs. Who knows how long that project is going to last.....We'll cross that bridge after Christmas.

Hey, trainboy, I'm going to be in Calgary on business in November for 5 days. Got any good hobby shops there, or clubs with public displays around?
Kids are great for many reasons. Not the least of which is to buy toys "for them."

Trains and Such, on 4th Street and 26th ave. NW. Has a front like a boxcar. Great store, great staff, great selection. http://www.trainsandsuch.com/
highly reccomended.
Also, the Calgary Model Trainmen club meets on wednesday nights around 7:30. They're on 12th St. SE, just west of the Elbow River, in a building that looks kind of like a short barn. www.calgarymodeltrainmen.org

P.S. Try railfanning the big hump yard from the Blackfoot trail bridge, in the SE. It's a little bit scary when a big truck goes by, but the action is non-stop!

Cool. I'll take a look around when I'm there. I'm staying downtown, so I don't think I'm all that far from either place.

Sounds like a lot of work for a building that's to be torn down in two years.
