I know Bill Gates is a train fan. He tends to model in 1:1 scale, though... hey, when you are THAT rich might as well go all the way....

My son and I are in the local Telephone company's DSL2+ commercial, although i have not even seen the commercial, I have been stopped and told that they have seen me on TV.

Its global too, as the commercial is on their website, so not only am I a local TV celeb, but an international one too.

heh, who am i trying to kid here, I'm just an average joe smuck who has his mug on TV

Along with the afore mentioned Frank,Red and Gary. I know Michael Gross is a train fan.
The LHS I just went to is in the town where all the country music stars have their ranches. They have an after hours program so the stars and their kids can shop in peace. (said they have a few Tenn politicians that shop there too).Wouldn't give up any names though.

Tyco-Your counter says 16,050 hits? I guess that would count as celeb status though.

Back in the 1950's, there was a local TV show in Hartford, Connecticut called "Ranger Andy". He was a guitar-playing guy who sang songs, had boyscouts and girlscouts on the show in the audience, showed cartoons etc. He was kind of like a local "Captain Kangaroo".

I went on the show featuring my button collection. I dressed up in a suit (I was probably 11 years old) and explained all about button collecting to the audience and the height of the presentation was some civil war buttons I had.

Does this make me a celebrity?

I'm so glad I graduated to model railroading from button collecting. Buttons are pretty boring.

Same here, as well as I got some pictures printed in "The Shortline" mag, about a derailment. Plus I am currently running for President under the Welded Rail Party.

If you've ever seen a short film CBC aired a few times called June Bug Symphony, then I'm a celebrity. If you haven't, I'm probably not. [:o)]

Hi, my name is Bill Gates, I just bought an HO trainset, Mike Gross told me that model trains are fun, now if I like them, I may buy Athearn, Walthers and every other company I can just so I can have all the stuff. I am really tired of computers and am thinking of buying a real railroad, does anyone know if the Union Pacific is for sale, I really don't like yellow and grey, I am thinking something in blue and white.

Any tips? I am new at this.

I saw Matthew Perry (sp.?) from a couple feet the other day....
They are making a film starring him at our school. I don't know what it's called, but we get to be a Harlem ghetto school with only the addition of some spray paint! Anyone got some funding for public education?

I guess I might be the most well-known or at least well-publicized celebrity on this forum.....if you count pictures in the post office.

Why do you think I'm always so quiet?

Tracklayer, if you are talking about household name type celebrities liking trains, there are tons. Walt Disney and Frank Sinatra are a couple of the biggest, unfortunately both are gone. Who knows, maybe Gary Coleman, Mandy Patinkin, Michael Gross, or Neil Young are hanging around here, incognito. I'm not sure that Hollywood types have time for this stuff, even if they like trains.

If you are just talking about here on the forum, the biggest name that comes to my mind is Joe Fugate. While Joe isn't a Hollywood type, among this crowd he stands out because of his accomplishments within the hobby. There are a few others here that I'm aware of, with published layouts.

Most people here on the forums don't know this, and I don't usually mention it, but some model railroaders actually consider me a bit of a celebrity. I do use a screen name, but every one of my posts has my real name at the bottom. The thing is it is not a name that everyone knows.

Like Joe and others, my layout has been featured in MR. It has also appeared in CTT, because of the type of trains I use. That layout no longer exists, but it was recorded on video before it was destroyed. I have been told by forum members that the video occasionally airs on RFD TV.

It is very easy and fairly inexpensive to get a copy of that video, as it has recently been transfered to DVD. Mine was the last segment in a six part series called Great Toy Train Layouts of America. The cost is $19.95.

http://www.tmbooks-video.com/

True story: A few years ago I was in a hobby store in suburban Chicago, and somebody actually recognized me from the video. I'm not sure who was more taken aback by this, him for thinking he was meeting a celebrity, or me for finding out that sombody thought I was one. [swg]

I want to be a celebrity. On the same grounds that John Allen, John Pryke, Allen McClellend, Tony Keoster, and Eric Brooman are celebrities.

Former race car driver, now tv commentator Sam Posey is an avid train fanantic. His layout has been in at least one magazine ( MR? ), and not long back I saw a feature on TV with him and his layout. He is good friends with Paul Newman, ( who I've met on several occasions, ) and even modeled the Newman's Own salad dressing factory on his layout, complete with a graveyard out back where they bury the taste testers! [:D]

I don't know if Sam hangs out here or not.

Sam Posey has also written a book about model railroading.

It's definitely a look at the hobby from a different viewpoint from most...

I am using a 5 button one right now (Logitech) own it for several years now. The only thing I didn't like about the Mac was the single button mouse. OSX can use just about anything out there that is USB or Firewire compatible. I use all five from time to time. They can be programed to do most anything you want. I love to screw them all up (switch the left and the right, etc.) when a windows user comes over and uses my G5. Drives 'em nuts!!! [:D]

BTW, the original version of Windows was stolen from Apple which is OK since Steve Jobs stole the code for Mac OS from Xerox, or so they say..... [:D]

Don't forget, unless they bought it back, Gates also owned or bought into Apple.

I am 100% Mac here, as well as I made my mother and aunt buy Mac's if they wanted help, my mother just just bought a new iBook, I am very upset, she got quite the deal. My brother is the black sheep, poor PC user [xx(] [}:)] [;)][:p]
