Went to first local show this year!!
Posted by UP Deano on Saturday, September 24, 2005 10:30 PM
well, i went to the first show close to me this year, it was in Monroe WI. it wasnt a big show, not many layouts, but if you were into DC you could easily go broke! i got GREAT deals on HO autos, kadee couplers, accurail boxcars, ect. i went looking for first gen diesels DCC\sound(CNW or UP), but no such luck there. they did have some deals on newer diesels DCC $87-125 was the average, w\sound $125-199. the AWSOME deals of the whole show were DC engines. if you were into DC, you could have went home with 3 engines for about $100!!! IHC(steam and diesel), Atlas(classic, silver), Proto(1000&2000), Stewart, and more, ALL from $25-$40 EACH!! i couldnt belive how CHEAP the DC engines were going for!! sure, i seen some at about two tables for $65 and up, but CRIPES, turn around and the table behind you had the same for $35!! ANY engine, ANY road, it was there in HO DC! ANYWAYS, i had a GREAT time, and just wanted to say HIT ALL YOUR LOCAL SHOWS!!

I went to my first local (Division) show last year. Wow! I was like a kid in a toy store and dropped $300 before I settled down. Same show is coming up in October and I am chomping at the bit. [:P][:D]

My first local show is coming in two weeks. Not really looking for much, maybe buildings (DPM would be nice) I usually go with a couple members of my local club and make a day out of it. If the wife gets that day off she'll be coming this time around and maybe look for things for the layout as well.

Their having a small show by me in Dec. at an LHS and a big regional show in Memphis next summer. Definatly plan on attending both.
I know what you mean on the DC loco prices being low. I just picked up a Bach F9 for $20, a Bach u30b for $30 and a Sectrum Dash 8 for $50. That Dash 8 is a sweet runner!

Tom,
That's definetly the show. I'll be the tallest one there (6'9") wearing probably either a sweatshirt or a blue nylon jacket with a Canadian flag on the right arm. I'll see you there!

There are two local shows coming up soon, Cincinnati and Dayton Ohio. I am looking forward to both. The first show I went to was this spring at the Cincinnati Convention Center. A small commercial show. I had no idea what to expect but I wanted to see some DCC systems to learn a little about them. No such luck. There was a lot of second hand rolling stock and locomotives but unfortunately that was not what I was looking for. Then I went to the big show after the NMRA convention and I was totally overwhelmed. That is one experience that every model railroad fan should have at least once.

Now I have an idea what to expect and what I can use on the layout. All I need is some cash.
