The "Good Humor Man" is coming to the Neighborhood

Hi Guys,
Yesterday, I went to a local hobby shop and purchased the Good Humor truck seen in the photo below. It is made by LifeLike....their new "SceneMaster" series. Unfortunately, the truck does not come with a driver, steering wheel or column. So, I thought you might like to know how I improved the truck.

First, I snapped off the front wheels and noticed that the whole front end of the truck slides up easily (it's not glued). I was therefore able to drill a hole in the dashboard with my pin vise to allow the insertion of a small piece of brass wire for the steering column. Next, I dug into my scrap box and pulled out an extra brake wheel from a boxcar. That I glued to the "steering column which I had painted black. The steering wheel may be a little large but what the heck...it looks okay.

Now for the driver. I had a seated figure of a guy but his left arm was raised as if to be waving. I amputated his arm at the elbow, and reattached it so it would be angled downward so as to have the guy's hand on the steering wheel. Then, I painted the guys shirt and pants white because I remember the Good Humor Man to be wearing white (I hope my memory serves me correctly). Having taken the photo for this posting, I realize now that I should have painted the guy's hair black to better contrast with the white clothing. I had left it the original blonde color. I'll "paint it black" tomorrow.

Anyway, it was a fun little project and I hope you folks will enjoy seeing the result and maybe some of you will attempt the project.

The Chocolate Eclair sure sounds good... I don't see a thing in the world wrong with your job mondo. I like doing things like that myself once in a while. Sometimes I run into the same problem that you did with the wheel being a little too big, but maybe one of these days you'll come across one that's just right and you can replace it. Until then, you've got a wheel.

Great job!! I think the Good Humor trucks were definately a sine of the times and are very very distinctive and I'm sure bring back many great memories for lots of us.

Who remembers the icecream bars that had the hard chocolate in the middle? Those were great!

Now for the decoder and the speaker in the ice creame box. Does the bell ringing syncronize with the vehicle speed, or should it be a steady ring ring ring![;)][:)]
Just kidding, great addition to the layout, brings back all kinds of summer memories.
