Updated Black River Valley Railroad Web Site

The latest update to my website has been posted. There is a new 'photo essay' on upgrading some 'cheap' plastic cars for use on the layout. [banghead] Just 'push' the thumbnail of the multi-colored cars on the 'How'd You Do That?' page.[:)]
I added a few photos to the 'Railroading' page and made a few other changes on the site.[:I]

Good job on those vehicles, but I cringed when you started to cut people in half [:O]

We need more websites like yours with some detailed tutorials. Hopefully when I get some more done on the layout, I will get to finishing my site and add some tips, pretty sad since my profession was web development...

Outstanding work,my question is :what did you use to hold hi-way down?I've tryed white glue no good!!slow CA works but there sould be a better way????

It was kind of fun to work on the cars. The results were gratifying, at least for me. The other photo essays were fun to do, but didn't have the visual satisfaction of LL car upgrade.[:D]

Believe it or not, I used a hot-glue-gun to put down the roadways. They are made out of 1/8" artist's board and painted with flat black acrylic latex.. You have to be quick, but careful fitting before gluing helps.So far everything has stayed in place pretty well. I did use thick CA to hold down the corners and road sections between the tracks at the crossings.
If I had it to do again I would build the road in smaller sections and go with one of the spray on artist's contact cements. I use them a lot at work with paper and poster board and they work great.

Okay, I gotta ask. What is the short disconnected track for?

I saw it on the plan and figured it was a mistake or something, but there it is on the layout.

You are not the first to ask.
The short disconnected track is my programing track. It's large enough for my longest loco, a 4-8-4 Niagara w/tender. The intention is to camouflage it as an abandoned track when I do the scenery around the tower.

Wow, I just checked out your clinic on the HO cars and pick up truck! outstanding work thanks for the tips those cars look great and there alot cheaper.

Pretty slick!!! Just goes to show what can be done with some POS plastic cars and some paint (few other things too)... Question.. How well (or not) does your programming track work with the BLI loco??

Jeff, my Digitrax Zephyr programs the BLI steamer okay. The only decoders I have had trouble with are Lenz/Atlas decoders. They require extra resistance across the programing track . I must confess though, I have been doing most of my programing lately with the DT400 in OPS mode.
