Renumbering an Atheran CF-7

I just bought another CF-7 made by Atheren. I want to change the engine number and I have the decals to apply the new number. My question is , What is the best way to remove the old number?? I have heard several bits of advice such as the eraser method. I am asking to see if anyone has spacificly done one on the newer Athern locos. Sometimes different paints can be trickey. Any advice will be appriciated.
