help with model railroader carrying case dimensions

In the July issue there were plans on a case to carry rolling stock in. I have ordered materials as listed in the parts list but have run into problems as the dimensions are wrong. The material is too long so only harm is i'll have to trim it to length, but the dimensions where the dividers are located in the drawers is also too small. The article calls for 2.250 inches between the dividers and i am closer to 2" with 4 spaces. I may go to 3 slots and make each one what comes out to be 2.900 inches. At 2.250 inches diesel locomotives would be a tight fit. If anyone has any other ideas let me know. I also have an excellent source for the expanded PVC they talk about. Mine came UPS cut to size and was 1/3 of the price i got from a local vender. If anyone is interested let me know and i'll post the name and addy. Thanks Jim
