Kester 63/37 Eutectic Solder Question
Posted by electrolove on Wednesday, September 7, 2005 3:56 AM
Kester manufactures the following solder:

63/37 Eutectic Solder contains 63% tin and 37% lead to provide a low melting temperature of 361°F (182,78 C) for faster soldering. Used for soldering heat sensitive components.

This must be good for soldering rail joiners, less risk to melt ties or am I completely wrong? Can someone please confirm this?

This is the type I have been using on my layout. I use the .031 dia. as this was the type I used when I worked on computer circuit boards.

Works great!

Unfortunately, the label has come off of the reel I have, but I think this is what I use -- low-temperature, resin core, electronics solder. It is perfectly suited for rail joiners because they are not going to be subjected to a lot of mechanical stress.
