Critiques please.

Today I did my first every kitbash![:D] I basically took two kits dissected and put back together. The finished product is a UP work train car with crew quarters and room for some equitment (I have a Norscot excavater on there at the time). I still have some detail work to do with paint but my dad won't let me use the paint while he's at work (why can't he have a 4 day weekend too! [:(]) I'd love any critiques you experienced guys have.

For our members that have slower connections I'll provide the link to my album with the pics.[;)].

DTF,

I like it! You made some progress with that unit. If you like to keep the caboose section in UP colors, consider stripping it with alcohol and repainting it in the correct UP Armour Yellow. I saw 2 photos of UP M.O.W equipment. One crane unit was green, but the caboose was in the yellow scheme. In your case I would consider painting the flat car as well, but its your kitbash. Weathering will make a big difference in helping to convey the appearance of a maintenance of way car.

You can also add a simple interior to it and lighting, depending on how far you want to go. For the interior, consider a desk, chairs, and bunks glued on top of a styrene strip that you can easily put inside. The interior walls of most cabooses were either the same as the exterior color or were gray.

10-4!

It's a little of both. I have an Amtrak MOW car that is very similar to this. That's where I got the idea.

Antonio: I'm wanting to do some repainting. On the flatcar I want to do a patch over the Southern lettering and put UP lettering. Your idea for lighting is pretty good. I might try to rig up something simple. I wi***his were a 5 or 6 day weekend!

that's neat !

i'd be tempted to take a 1 to 2 inch slice out of the caboose to leave some empty flatcar space between the caboose and the excavator , unless you're modelling a specific prototype

That is one heck of a model. A bright idea too, I'm sure we'd all love to see how it turns out in the end! Like Antonio said, do a little more detailing to it, and don't try to do too much at once. And you know how railroads are, they're always trying to cut costs, so there probably is a prototype similar to this out there.

Keep up the good work![tup]

You need to learn the focus range of your camera. Even cheap web cams can take a clear picture if you focus correctly. You took the time to learn how to publish your web page, imagine how nice it would look if you took the time to learn your camera?

Simple yet effective, I LIKE IT! I would think that a little more flat car space would be more ideal, but it is your kitbash.[:D] But then again, a second flat car could fix that problem. Okay, problem solved.[:p]

Now, I just think you should weather that bad boy, and put it into service.[8D]
